What a load of balls. Big deal, a group of guys make a light-hearted sexist comment about a girl and someone gets fired over it?! Yet when women do the same to men it's never blown out of proportion. It's taken as it was meant, a light-hearted comment.
How come it's only males who can be accused of being sexist? A similar thing happens with most forms of prejudice/discrimination (racism, i'm looking at you), but that's for another discussion. However I do agree with Ron Atkinson's dismissal, that was just too far.
P.S. Surely a better way of dealing with this was to get the lineswoman/linesperson/whatever the correct term is and show the video in slo-mo from every angle possible showing Gray that she did in fact make the right decision when Gray got it wrong.

Which descision did he get wrong? The offside call? The idea that women should stay out of the sport? Whether she was 'a looker' and whether 'he would' or 'wouldn't'?
-

He got the offside call wrong.
-
• #133
The call isn't relevant. you're missing the point entirely

No i'm not, the point is that he made a sexist remark.
Was the remark made in jest or with malice?

I think too many people are too interested in setting a moral code by which they think everyone else should abide by, getting all offended on behalf of a third party. In life the only thoughts and behaviour you can truly control is your own, so all you can do is set an example by living out the values you hold dear. Do what you think is right in the context of your own experience. I didn't even know about this shitty matter until Multi Grooves pointed it out.
Perfectly summed up, got completely blown out of proportion and from what i've seen the people who the remark was aimed at don't really care. Too many people need to get a sense of humour.

Hummm, I mainly agree with that.
Part of me thinks that discussion of any issues of prejudice is good. However, if people bang on about it too much then ultimately it gets undermined.

They are an embarrasment, and so were sacked. Perhaps if there wasn't a backlog of dickishness which came out over the next day or two andy gray may have been let off, and if Keys didn't dig his own grave he might have escaped a sacking.
It isn't a case of a joke getting out of hand, it's a manefestation of their ignorance and predjudice against women in the sport. They are in effect spokesman for the broadcaster this obviously makes their job untenable.
The moralising in the media is another thing

I thought this thread for guys to prove how "right on" they are and how they are aware of womens issues. So are we not posting here as a covert pick up strategy?
Have I just blown our cover?
For the record.
I'm not getting offended on the behalf of the fairer sex, or anything like that. I happen to love sport (OK so not so much football), and shite like this taints it.

what's wrong with being sexy?

it doesn't surprise me that there are idiot commentators and pundits that continue to behave badly on and off camera, i don't think it is a generation thing, there are plenty of people all ages in the UK who still think and talk crap.
for Sian Massey (assist ref) and Karren Brady (WHU vice chairman), Gabby Logan (TV sports presenter) i'm sure they receive alot of shite from the terraces, colleagues, peers ..
to love football that much is rather bewilderly..
