Lever pulls cable, cable operates on hydraulic master cylinder down by the caliper, hydraulic pressure operates pistons. I assume they're less damagable on court. You get the even pad pressure you should get with hydro, but the downside is you've got the same amount of cable friction as a normal cable-disc system.
