Yeah. I decided against it because I think it's easy enough to get a steel touring/light touring frame, whereas there aren't really many people making OTP high end steel road bikes, not with geo that would fit me anyway. Also, as an example the new 953 Genesis frame set that comes with enve forks costs a whopping 2500 I think. This will be cheaper than that and fit me better.

Full rep for supporting new talent!
Being a newcomer and with this build being a showcase for his talent, he's not going to settle for anything less than exceptional.
Having Rusby 007 is likely to be a sound investment if he proves himself in the long term.
Not to mention J(ames) B(ond)/007: it was meant to be...

Bit late to the discussion, but I'd always recommend Jon of http://www.chickensframeemporium.co.uk/
Enigma trained, experienced and works in XCR.
XCR fillet brazed £1500 + £100 for him to bike fit you.

My only concern is that I've heard Xcr, being stainless, is very difficult to build with and Jake has only built 6 frames. Should I be going to a more experienced builder to get a stainless frame, or is it worth taking the risk on a newer guy? £1800 is a lot of money, after all...
Bit late to this, but it ultimately down to you, if you feel he's the right man for the job, then he's the right man for the job.

Subscribed.
I can only hope that I'll be able to get a shiny custom frame one day.
Perhaps when I'm as old as JB.
Wait, wtf is going on here?

I don't have a credit card, but I do live at home and currently have very few outgoings.

Jake has agreed to take me on as a customer. I am excite. Though there probably won't be any updates for a month or so...

What are your outline thoughts in terms of specification now?

Will look forward to how this turns out. Suspect I may end up with a bit of regret going the way I did, but things could be worse.....

You mean lucking out on a lush second hand Roberts audax frame?

I'm really unsure to be honest. Mainly on group set choices - everything else will be fairly easy and I expect I'll go down the 3T road.
I think I'll regret it if I don't go for electronic shifting, even though it's completely unnecessary. So it'll either be Ultegra Di2, Ultegra or DA9000. Or maybe SRAM Red. But I have to admit I really, really like the new Shimano groups, especially the lever shapes - they feel great. Still in two minds on disc brakes because really, this is a bike that won't get ridden in shitty weather. But at the same time, I don't believe there's such a thing as too much stopping power and I may as well have the frame specced for them whilst I can. The only thing then is finding an appropriate disc fork - I realise Enve would be the best option. But I wouldn't want the forks to limit other options such as tyre size.
To be honest - there are just so many options and I still haven't decided on anything for certain. Waiting to hear back from Jake with his thoughts one what we've discussed before I go any further - one thing I know for sure is that I want internal routing and no mounts. I realise that's a very inconclusive answer to your question, Dammit.
Fussballer, no drawings or geo have yet been completed.

This is awesome!
I think Jake (rusby) is a talented framebuilder would go with him in a heartbeat if I had money (or space) for another bike.
Would be interesting to know what are your (and jake's) ideas for this bike in detail.
Edit:
I'd stay away from electronic for 2 main reasons for this bike. Weight saving and simplicity. Horses for courses approach. If you're really keen on electronic still i'd say go DA9000 Di2 and not Ultegra.
Electronic groupset is great for winter bike but for sunday best I wouldn't be able to justify it for the two reasons I mentioned.I'd have the same argument against disc brakes on this bike too. Between V-Twin and 6700 brakes with swisstop blue pads riding the same route in wet the difference in braking I get is not more than 10% to 20%.
You use look keo dont you? Come over and have a go on my biek if you want and decide then.

Test ride as many bicycle with different groupset, including Campagnolo until you're certain.

The question is do you want to be an early adopter or not? prepared to spend even more money in the future for better and more reliable components? like the first quote, find and test ride disc-equipped bicycle, especially with the newer brakes such as the Tektro HY/RD.
To be honest - there are just so many options and I still haven't decided on anything for certain.
Giving the timescale, you should able to have a couple or so months to think about it and do some research yourself.

Just as a thought experiment, if Jake gave you this suggested list of frames+prices, which one would you go for?
- 853 disc braked road bike, tapered steerer, Di2 only, £1,500 (frame)
- 921 disc braked road bike, tapered steerer, Di2 only, £1,800 (frame)
- 931 disc braked road bike, tapered steerer, Di2 only, £1,900 (frame)
- 953 disc braked road bike, tapered steerer, Di2 only, £2,500 (frame)
- 853 disc braked road bike, tapered steerer, Di2 only, £1,500 (frame)

853 I suppose... I have to admit I'm acting fairly nonchalantly with regards to how much this is actually going to cost...

Fuck Di2...

IF: quill stem THEN: cables
So the final choice is an out and out race machine? No touring option?
