What size bag? £6/250g is as high as I'd go unless it's very special
It works out at about £6.50 for 250g if you consider the flat white would have cost about £2.50. Beans from Square Mile or Monmouth are gonna set you back at least £8 from what I can remember.
It's quite pricey, but to get a coffee I know I'm going to really enjoy, I think it's reasonable. Going to a supermarket is always a massive gamble. Plus, getting a really nice bag of beans means I don't spend as much on coffee out.

Remember Square Mile bags are 350g

Having a real battle with Philips at the moment - my Gaggia broke down, yet again, about 8 weeks ago, so they said they'd collect and fix it for free. I packed it up in its original box, with extra padding and the courier picked it up from mum's office. Several weeks later I hear nothing so ask them what the score is. They say it's repaired but claim it was damaged in transport due to bad packing. Totally ridiculous!
Despite many pointless phone calls and emails and now a letter from my mother to the company MD, I still don't know what's happening or if I'll ever see my machine again. I have a quiet weekend coming up so I think it's time to get stroppy...
It's a shame my whole experience of the Gaggia Classic has been tarnished by so many mechanical and now customer care problems.

^ contact your local trading standards dept for advice.
IMO If it was damaged in transit they shouldn't have repaired it, instead they should've contacted you to discuss the damage before proceeding.
You don't mention this, but if they're not offering any terms by which you can retrieve your property that would put thrm on dodgy ground surely?
-
• #8731
P.s. damage in transit = yourself (or Phillips) could be contacting courier about their involvement?
-
• #8732
Sounds almost as bad as inkjet printer repair. Couriers fuck them up 9 times out of 10.
-
• #8733
Yeah I should try trading standards. You're right rhb, Philips shouldn't have gone ahead and fixed it without talking to me first or at least photographing the alleged damage! Never had a problem with courier firms and this driver seemed really conscientious and efficient, but I will have to phone them too.
It's been a bit tricky to sort out from where I am and I don't want to burden my mum any further but if I don't have a working machine ready by the time I go home in a few weeks I am not going to remain calm or polite.

Twitter smear campaign?
-
• #8735
Maybe. Will see what, if anything, the physical letter to head office achieves...
When I called again today to try to actually speak with someone, they said the matter had now been escalated so they couldn't discuss it with me. Not sure if that's good or bad!

The couriers were DPD, who I thought were typically one of the better firms. Have dug out the driver's name should it be needed...

Twitter smear campaign?
on twitter the term is shit stain
-
• #8738
I didn't mean to infer that couriers intentionally fuck them up, more that the devices turn out to be more delicate than you'd expect, and don't react well to being punted around time and again.

I have won an Aeropress, how course do I need to grind the beans for it?
-
• #8740
i used to ask monmouth to grind for a fine filter setting. so coarser than espresso but not too coarse
on my porlex that would be just a couple of clicks away from it's finest setting.
the microfilters are very good at stopping sediment so you can experiment quite freely with it.

Aces.

Gifted a bag of Alchemy Guatemalan beans, smell amazing. A week on the aeropress beckons.

Workmate has just brought in £200 worth of civet coffee. You can really taste the anus.

I prefer to save my money and get my anus taste elsewhere.

Where would people recommend for a good flat white either in Soho or near Euston?
-
• #8746
Soho - Tapped & Packed on Wardour, Flat White(!) on Berwick, Nude in Soho Square maybe
Euston - good luck. -
• #8747
In Soho/Fitzrovia - Kaffiene or Attendant on Great Titchfield St, or Lantana off Charlotte St are good.
There is also a TAP coffee on Tottenham Court Road closer to Euston!
-
• #8748
Oh shit, obviously Rapha in Soho! And Daily Goods at Kinoko cycles.
-
• #8749
I think Kinoko has stopped doing coffee on the weekends? Or did I imagine this?

Any recommendations near westbourne grove/ porchester rd?
I had some Geisha a while ago. Very nice. Mine was like Yirgacheffe but fruitier and more natural like. I think I had one bag and then liked it so much I bought another.
Gatomboya is lush.
