Given the severity of some injuries/ incidents in this thread, I thought twice about posting this...but might provide some levity if nothing else...
Got a gust of wind/ leaf in the eye on my way home last night, blinked it out, but the discomfort mounted until I got home. After a couple of excrutiating hours I took myself to A&E to discover a huge scratch on my eye-ball, occluding the pupil.
Ironically, having been hit by cars twice in the last 10 years and crashed on slicks of diesel; this is by far the most painful cycling injury I've sustained.
My wife's helpful suggestion was that I start to "wear goggles on my bike".
