  • Don't get me started on Tesco express, I'm all for getting shouty at them. They open a convinience store in a smart neighbouhood and fill it with tat, did you know that the one in Highgate does not sell English butter!!!!eh!!! I have had a full on basket down flounce because of this. I have also flounced on the lack of english bacon before although they seem to have come round on this one. I now have to be desperate to go there as given the choice I will slum it down to archway for the co-op and home grown produce.

Racist! what's wrong with danish bacon?

  • Mmmm... bacon. Oh wait...

  • Racist! what's wrong with danish bacon?

Lower welfare standards than british pigs. Our's are not great but Danish is worse.

  • What's the best bacon in Tesco? I haven't managed to find any that isn't thin and full of water, even the 'finest' stuff...

    wrong thread

  • You have to go for the thick cut dry cure, still wet but it's the best of a bad bunch. Morrisons bacon (not the value stuff) tends to be a big step up on Tesco finest.

  • Look for dry cure bacon, anything that does not specifically mention dry cure on the packet has been cured in brine for two reasons:

    1. There is less waste in the curing process.
    2. The bacon absorbs water from the brine making it heavier per slice and increases the profit margins.
  • Tesco's own branded food is really bland imo. Seems to be for people who know they need to eat something, but aren't that fussed about it tasting of much. Sainsburys is a lot better, the taste the difference bacon and sausages are great

  • I think you're being a bit of a snob to claim they're bland.

Although Bobbo's right about certain food retaining water to make them look big.

  • We had a fry-up at work the other day and everything came from Morrisons as it was nearest. I wouldn't normally use them because of their lack of an apostrophe but you shouldn't cut your nose off to spite your face when you're hungry. Despite my reservations over the apostrophe the food was good.
I agree that Tesco is too cheap and quality suffers. Sainsbury's know their punctuation and their onions (probably) and seem to be better than Tesco.
The good Mrs Savage works in the cash office at Tesco but shops at Sainsbury's.

  • Sorry, didn't think I was being a snob, I thought tesco and sainsburys were roughly the same price, apologies if not

  • i find sainsbury's cheaper for basics

  • Sainsbury's have free range bacon (sometimes). That in itself is a winner.
Also they do their 'ultimate' bacon & sausages for £5 if you buy two packs at a time. Free range pork is somewhat of a rarity, it seems.

Oh, and their taste the difference croissants shit all over the best Waitrose can come up with.

  • The croissants are actually quite nice, as long you get them fresh from the oven thought.

  • all supermarkets should be judged based on the quality of their tramps buffet. tescos wins everytime.

/pack of 6 crumpets for 30p on monday. SUCCESSpets more like.

  • Again, Sainsburys Local on Borough High St used to do bags of 5 danishes from their bakery section for 10p after 10pm.

Made an excellent supper after a late night in the office.

I get more success with Waitrose than Tesco ironically enough when it come to the tramps buffet, but then I think it's largely down to the location rather.

  • Fuck me is this still going on?
In the news; there is no news.

I've found leyton asda to contain the greatest bargains - picked up enough food the other day for a three-course multi-genre meal for me and my girlfriend... Total cost 45p.

  • That why mums go to ASDA... oh wait.

  • I saw the story about this on the BBC site yesterday, but footage of the two aircraft colliding and everyone bailing out...

Pretty spectacular and amazing everyone survived.
