Internet problems for Virgin Media customers

  • Throttling?

  • And yeah if this continues then a dongle is probably the route I am going to go down.

  • Fuck virgin. For the last three days we've had half a day of internet access. No fucking warning, no explanation and no sorry.

    ADSL or cable?

  • It'll just be some scrote downloading porn at the speed of light at the end of your street.

  • Cable

  • It said on their website that they were fixing 'a known problem' in the area.

  • @sumo It's definitely not true that BT or anyone else won't be better. I was with BE (now Sky owned) for years until recently, no throttling, very reliable, never slowed down ever. I'm now on Infinity so maybe not relevant but no throttling on that so far either, constant 72Mb/s, but top speed becomes irrelevant when they do throttle it. I was happy with BE even though I never got more than 6Mb/s. For me reliability > speed and my recommendation would be BE if you only have a landline or Infinity if you can get it.

  • Well, since the problems I detailed up in the thread somewhere my connection has been perfect, always 30 or 31. I'm in N16.
It was a slog to get it sorted out but I was also refunded three months charges so my experience of Virgin is ok. Once I made contact through Facebook, and using the twitter e-mail (which is just an e-mail address, you don't need to be on Twitter) they paid attention, did what they said they would and got the problem fixed.
There are several other flats in this house with Virgin and I don't know of anyone having any longstanding problems. I guess with any ISP there will be a proportion who just get the shitty end of the stick. Threatening to leave, and meaning it, also concentrates their minds.

  • When it runs in our house it's pretty fast but we should be getting 60mb/s and they've consistently failed us to deliver it , fairly recently they turned up at ours without a appointment and said they'd be cutting off the internet for us until we stopped putting disruption on the network , after asking about anything we'd done around the house that might affect it and being told we had cat5 cabling going to every room,up the garden they either wanted us to remove it or we could wait for them to install a new box that allegedly stops the disruption , took them 2 days to do so no internet without tethering my phone , no refund either

  • Cat 5 cable disrupts their network? Fuck that.

It's been fucking wank with Virgin since I got back from holiday on the 18th October at my parents in Romford. We do have 5 users in the house now since my sister and her husband moved in while they're house buying but at midnight I'd expect to be able to at least stream some porn unimpeded.

  • Just ask them to leave the room then.

How does networking your house cause network disruption? Were you sharing the connection or something and they got wise to fair usage breaches?

I'm in Ealing and get faster than that on cable.

    Do you have the Superhub?

Are you running speed test whilst cabled or over wifi?

Finally, their claimed speeds are always maximum speeds - I'm not sure what the fine print says about what % of the max they have to reach though.

  • Just ask them to leave the room then.

Easier to just start.. they'll leave soon enough.

  • I forgot to say that someone I know recently discovered any kind of business use with Virgin isn't allowed under their T&Cs.

    Even 'light' working from home...

  • How would they know?
(Especially if you review porn sites for a living)

  • Shit, that's me rumbled. I can't believe it was such a short lived (midget joke here) career in porn reviews.

  • Since I posted here last my virgin connection has crashed. Now on the phone to a nice Indian bloke

  • Ask how the weather is over there, makes for a nice but awkward piece of conversation, especially if they've pretended to be in the UK

  • So the man said there is a major issue in my area (N4/virgin cable cs19) which will take 2 days to fix...
    (Its raining)

Funny, because I'm on the 60MB as well and it has been outperforming for the last few weeks

  • Branson can go suck a fat one. A seriously overweight, flabby, fat penis.

Same ere - been consistently like this for the last 10-11 months.

  • Mine's still intermittent.
Engineer came round. Spoke shit for 45 minute and then left.
Nothing got solved, internet is still bollocks and I don't know why.

Fuck off Virgin you fucking tossers.

  • Anyone else had a broadband outage for over 48hours now?
