So this claim about 56% more light let in by the sensor is accurate? also, does the protruding lens/case cause it to sit awkwardly on a flat surface like has been suggested?

No idea about more light. I need to test it in a club or something.

The protrusion is less than a mil so I'd not even noticed it until you said. Not sure what difference it makes unless you're the kind of person that uses a spirit level when you put your phone down?
