and can you replace the ram on those slim body as easily as their bigger brothers?
-
• #5103
They changed processor family and got faster flash storage, happened in September. RAM not user changeable like the bigger one.
-
• #5104
oh right, might as well buy 1 now then, coz I was waiting for a new gen to come out... or is there likely to be another upgrade? Is there no way to upgrade the ram yourself? their ram is some expensive...

• #5105
Can upgrade the ram on the 27" through a panel on the back but the small one is a skilled job. I just got the new 27, it's lush

opinions?
It's cheap, if it breaks, bin it and get a new one?

Actually their 16gb isn't that much more expensive that if getting from crucial directly, which is what I would go for anyway... Might as well just get that with apple. What ram have you got? I do a fair bit of video editing and while the 8gb on my MBP is fine alongside with a 2nd screen, I do miss having an iMac...

Really? I thought an extra 8gb was 120, can get 16gb extra for £120 from crucial.
Still got the standard 8gb, going to upgrade that soon though, it hasn't struggled but I think it could be quicker. I don't do video though either

yes you are right, it is 120 for 16gb from crucial so in effect it'd be 24gb in total for an extra 120. And an extra 160 from apple for an extra 8gb to make it a total of 16. I forgot about the standard 8gb that comes with the machine already... oops... now that's expensive...
I might bribe the technician at work to change that for me... he only drinks filter coffee anyway...

or just get an apple one and be done with it?

that too. they are a lot dearer though, aint they?
-
• #5113
yeah but what's a few tenners compared to the frustration of a probably sub standard keyboard that might fail?
-
• #5114
Any little hiccups and/or serious problems with OS X Mavericks I should know of before I update?
-
• #5115
Not had any. All software was fine moving over or fine after a readily-available update. Noticeably faster and I gained 10GB from somewhere...

My trackpad has gone shitty. It keeps trying to scroll left-right as well as up-down and goes jumpy when it realises it can't.

Cheers guys... the the interwebz, including LFGSS seem to be in two minds.

I upgraded two macs on the night and was fine, but remember soul and dammit having issues. If you've got a backup you've got nothing to lose...
-
• #5119
Think I've got backup... if not NSA got me covered.
-
• #5120
Mine worked in the end, it just took a while to think about it.

Anyone else getting this? Driving me nuts, like I don't know how to use a trackpad properly.
