  • Quick Google indicated that the bolt diameter on a CX chainset is 110, so 34t can be installed on a CX crankset, unless there's a reason why that's not possible?

  • 110 or 130 but most likely the former.

Randomly the Rival CX chainset I picked up for the wife's bike was 130bcd.

Which was fine as we were going for 39 / 12 - 32

  • I'd prefer canti, preferably Alu frame and cx chainset. I'd like to have a bash at a race or two. The caad looks good.

  • To be fair, the disc equipped CAADX have great brakes despite it's being Cannondale's own.

  • They take Avid BB5 pads by all accounts.

  • How much would you guys pay for a BMC CX01 frameset in used but good condition?
    Anyone? Thanks!

    bump

  • Not a lots I reckon, £200? (if good condition implied no scratches or dent).

  • They are very nice the CX01s. Classic BMC styling, and quality.

    What size?

  • Alright, thanks. So, 300-350 including an easton ec90x fork.

Depends on condition. There is a bit of desire for slightly older BMCs out there. The design helps them maintain value. So it could be viewed as outdated (no discs), or as a classic frameset. I've seen my Racemaster frameset go for silly money on EBay. Also, it might be worth splitting. A CX01 frame, and a Easton disc fork would be a great combo IMHO. Maybe other buyers would feel the same.

I guess its all about the right person buying it.

  • i'm really tempted by the board cx team. seems to have great reviews. I always thought they were crap

  • Only if they we're put together by an inexperienced mechanic, which is largely the case.

  • I've looked through alot of this thread but i'm still no where near knowing what bike to buy ?

Will be for weekend rides/commuting with the possibility of racing in the future.

Don't want to spend much more than £1200

    Help please !

  • Probably the canyon inflite

  • It's an unanswerable question – which is why the thread's still active.

Try some, see which you like, see if you want to buy any of them?

  • Shimano disc 10sp to 11sp freehub conversion with Lennard Zinn. Using a SRAM cassette and Campy electronic rear derailleur AKA fuck the police!

There's some suggestions on this page, and there's some other brands worth looking at like Whyte, Focus etc. Identify the ones that are easy to test then go for the one you like most.

  • Howard have already did a very decent list, how is that not getting you closer to choosing what you want? go to a LBS and test ride as much as you can.

Rad, but not for commute / tour.

In that category I'd start with

    CAADX 105 disc
    Croix De Fer / CDF
    Pinnacle Arkose
    Surly CrossCheck
    Boardman
    Canyon Inflite
    Kinesis crosslight

Think they've all been discussed on here somewhere.

  • Must have missed Howards list. Ill look into those.

    Cheers

  • Yeah me to I have my cycle to work voucher and was going to pull the trigger but have heard they had problems with the paint cracking near the seat post. Went down to halfords and the bike on display has cracking near the seat post. So not sure what to do now as I have to use halfords for my cycle to work.

  • Is there's an expiry date on your C2W voucher?

Is your voucher only apply to Halford?

You can always wait for the 2014 model.

  • I've had a look at the cube cross race, 105 and all. But only a 60cm

  • ^^^ Condor take halfords vouchers (or at least they used to) - some other more progressive LBSs might too.

You might be able to get a deal on one of these (although certainly not from Condor):

I've had one for a couple of years and love it.

  • if I was buying a cx bike for full rrp price, I'd get this badboy for 999

    Giant TCX SLR 2 2014

  • Yup. Pretty rad.

I thought all the TCX models this year used a through axle though. And I think that model ships with Spyre brakes, too. Maybe the picture is wrong.
