Did a similar thing today but just on wet slick road.

This happened to me a few times last year before my move to the city. Luckily now I have my Surly with nobblies on for the winter. Should lower the chances a little...
Indra, just read about you ordeal, did you manage to take the driver to court?

Some older chap decided to swerve round (as far as i could see) nothing this morning in Moorgate as i flew past him on the right, leaving plenty of space. He went straight into me despite my best efforts to shout watch out, lost it, and fell. I stopped to make sure he was ok and helped him straighten his bars back up but still managed to get a mouthful.
Anyway, hopefully he's ok !

Moorgate is an atrocious road particularly in the wet.. It is pitted and holed and there are dozens of metal (slippery when wet) manhole covers. It is always best to give other riders a lot of space and to take the lane from motorists for fear of having to swerve suddenly. I swear that there are new obstacles every day, particularly southbound.
That said, it is decent of The City of London Corporation to provide somewhere for cyclists to train for the Paris-Roubaix.

Sage advice that can't be stated too often.

At least you can actually ride down it at the moment. On random days the road is just closed with no warning. I have to say i thought i'd left plenty of space as i was pretty much touching the central white line, but apparently not.
You're correct though, it's not the most brilliant of surfaces !!

I should add that I was not the "older bloke" in question.

Ow man, heal up soon!
(don't blame yourself it's the driver's duty to check)
-
• #860
Heal quickly

I did wonder.

Went a bit quiet when I sent him the bill. Custom CX bikes aren't cheap.
Lawyers now on the case. Will update. In other news the GPS trace of the whole sorry affair is quite interesting.
This is rumbling on, but in a positive direction.

Lawyer up and fuck him over good. I would, and I'm a scum-sucking lawyer who knows no better...

Ambulance chasing on the rider down section? Impressive ;-)

Nah, I don't do PI (personal injury). But I appreciate the Rottweileresque tenancity of some of those who do.
-
• #866
Yes, lawyer up and heal up, Paul. That sounds like a nasty collection of injuries.
-
• #867
get well soon.
-
• #868
Having had a similar experience a few years ago, I can recommend getting a tooth implant to replace your new gap. Reassuringly expensive item to add to driver's insurance too.
-
• #869
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Get well soon.
-
• #870
recover fast tommy and lawyer up for this one.
-
• #871
Shit, heal up man and don't even talk to him. Get a lawyer and forget about it.
-
• #872
It was reassuring expensive but he didn't think the car drivers insurance would cover dental costs - not sure why.
That sounds wrong, driver's liable, but IANAL.

On the subject above, it is worth noting the Highway Code which covers this issue.
212
When passing motorcyclists and cyclists, give them plenty of room (see Rules 162 to 167). If they look over their shoulder it could mean that they intend to pull out, turn right or change direction. Give them time and space to do so.213
Motorcyclists and cyclists may suddenly need to avoid uneven road surfaces and obstacles such as drain covers or oily, wet or icy patches on the road. Give them plenty of room and pay particular attention to any sudden change of direction they may have to make. -

Apparently Oliver Jeffcot's firm - Bolt Burdon Kemp
Only take on a case if the claim is more than £25k...!My £300 for a dental bill and new pair of trainers is looking a faint hope
I did it on Friday. Cost me £120 in new wheels. On the other hand, new wheels! (R500s, so nothing outrageous)
