I'm sure it's a 3rd party, rather than Nikon themselves.
The card I got back said it had a check and reset, can't imagine many parts were required for that.
I'm going to try and get a new body, rather than get it repaired again.
Im going away in a couple of weeks, zero chance of me getting it back before I go.I'm going to argue what they sold me isn't for for purpose.

Both are fucking lovely. I like the processing too...

Thanks man, I think it's a bit off if you look close, I'm not great with colours...
Also I think the second one was unconsciously inspired by some of the stuff you post on here, it's not quite what I would normally do anyway.

So I went from having two great cameras to none. Both need fixing or are possibly dead.
The first is a Ricoh GRD 1, which the kids did some sort of kid magic to and now the screen looks like a slightly stripy lcd trip. Still takes photos, but I have no control and there is no chance in changing the settings.
The second is a canon 20d which did a 5ft drop onto a concrete floor and now doesn't turn on.
What are the chances of getting these fixed? Both were second hand and cost just over £100 each and can be replaced with a second hand one for the same price.
Worth it?

Tbh, doubt it

• #4661
If that is the case, what should I replace them with? Anything better than a 20d for being a strong controllable dslr that shouldn't break (unless it has too many long drops onto concrete floors) for £100?
And what about a compact like a GRD that's tough, has a prime lens, has ISO and aperture controls and is around £100 second hand?

Can you use the Ricoh anyway? (I guess you would need a viewfinder.) Maybe it would be too annoying but pretty much everything is accessible with one or maybe two button presses, if know/figure out where you're starting and keep count when you press things...

I was thinking about this but the viewfinder looks to be about £100 anyway. Also trying to remember what the ISO setting is would be annoying. Also it is very easy to change things by accident, especially the flash. And it's meant to be my wifes camera and such things would piss her off.
It tried to take it apart earlier to see if it's just a dodgy connector but it is very against being taken apart it seems.

i hate it when things break, aaarrggghh
Can anyone give me any pointers with the 20d? It is begging to be taken apart. It's like a mecano set in there.

Actually the canon may be saveable... Just found it flashing "err99", will investigate.

Harold - I've got a GRD1 I could sell you. It's missing the ring around the objective but as you have one already, that won't be a problem. PM me if you're interested

Finally got a wordpress site up and running. Need to get more stuff on there:
www.duncanpalmer.com
I am hoping to get a custom site designed. Can anyone here offer such services? Or recommend anyone who can design me something nice?

How custom? What would it offer you over a good theme?
(I like these a lot www.themetrust.com/themes/ )
-
• #4669
^^ designed or developed?
I can develop it on the cheap, but im no designer ;)
-
• #4670
Just get a banging theme and save a load of hassle. Themetrust has some really nice ones...

also (feel free to tell me to naff-off), I'd probably make photography the first link in the menu, as that is what is going to swing the deal, and if you are working as a wedding photographer, I'd probably drop the 'other' section (link it on flickr or something, but people want to see serious work mainly). (as I said feel free to tell me to >>>>)

+1.
Make sure its the first thing people see.

Cheers guys!
I've made a couple of changes based on your suggestions. Definitely a work in progress at the moment.

I'll look into those themes too. The one I have at the moment is nice, but definitely want something better. I don't really know much about coding or tweaking themes or owt.
thanks again!
