Ale, Beer, Stout appreciation

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good starter kit or guide for home brewing. I have a fairly large basement space (single garage sized) so have plenty of space. I'd rather something i have quite a large amount of influence over, is starting with a full mash kit a bad idea?

This is a great kit to start with.

However you can pick up the bits secondhand a lot cheaper but I'd recomend the Woodfords Werry. Lovely beer.
