Quite honestly the climate sucks.
I have the PBW mudguards ready to fit (needed them today, but did'nt have time). They are an awesome solution. Especially if you want the bike for off-road stuff. I hate full guards offroad. They are basically a super-sized versoin of the crudcatcher/ seatpost mount combo you get on loads of hardtails. Easy to remove, light, and cheap.
Charlie the bike monger had them.
