^^^ how about vegan DMs (the shoes rather than the boots)? Smarter than vans! Not sure when you can get them in London but you could always try on a regular leather pair for size in a shop somewhere then get the vegan ones online?
-
• #1329
Only problem with DMs is that you'll definitely need to break them in- or be absolutely crippled on your way to, during and long after the wedding

Mine were fine straight out of the box funnily enough. I've never worn leather ones though so I don't know if it's my feet or the shoes themselves that are unusual.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Has anyone been at The Third Estate? It's listed on the Vegan London website. I'll give a try both to Vx and this on Saturday and we'll see.
Oliver, when you say Brighton I take it you mean Vegetarian Shoes? Or is there any other shop over there?
-
• #1332
Ah, I forgot about The Third Estate. I haven't actually been yet. I meant to go to the launch but couldn't make it. This is what Fat Gay Vegan had to say about it:

Yes, I meant Vegetarian Shoes. I don't know of others there, but perhaps I'm out of date there, too. :) Vegan London doesn't list any others:

A massive number of on-line outlets--those have really grown.

Awesome, I missed that blog post but it sounds reassuring! I'll hit that first then on Saturday.

Who knows a place in London where I can go and find some formal vegan shoes?
I am supposed to show up at a wedding next week and I can't find anything to go with a black suit. My last resource will be a brand new pair of Vans authentic in black but I'd like to try at least to find alternative solutions.I was thinking about Vx, I know they have some vegan shoes, but I don't remember a huge selection... Any other place in London that might be worth a visit?
The Natural Shoe Store has a few London branches and do stock various vegan shoes: http://www.thenaturalshoestore.com/Article/View/articleCode/Our%20Stores/ -

Been quite quiet around here.
They may have been around for a while, but last night I noticed for the first time in a UK supermarket the sort of vegan sandwich spreads that are now ubiquitous in Germany. Well, some of them are merely vegetarian, but the vast majority are vegan. Since the success of the Lebe Gesund brand more than ten years ago, other companies have made similar products.
The particular variant I found was from granoVita and is marketed as 'Organic Punk! Dip'n'Spread', e.g. the 'Organic Chilli Dunk'. No doubt thinking up these names swallowed up a good deal of budget for marketing consultants. :) granoVita are a vegetarian rather than a vegan company, but these spreads are vegan.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if they become as successful as they did in Germany, where many meat-eaters now prefer them to traditional meat-based spreads. Not in many shops yet, so here's to distribution spreading far and wide.

Those spreads are awesome! Gorged myself on them the couple of times I've been to Germany recently. Can anyone recommend any good vegan eats/points of interest in New York? Off in November!

That I remember of:
Sacred Chow
Caravan of Dreams
Lula's Sweet Apothecary
Babycakes NYC
Foodswings
Champs Family Bakery
Dun-Well DoughnutsYou'd better google them though, I don't know what are still alive or not.

Is Nhatt still in NYC? She might have a few tips (but has not been on here much by the looks of it).

I'll be moving to Leeds at the end of next month, does anyone know any places I should check out? I have been once before in my life (last Saturday) and can't remember an awful lot of it......

Little Toyko is a big Japanese place with vegan stuff, the bento is incredible!
Out Of This World is a nice health food shop that also has a great cake counter, get the blueberry fudge slice. Also nice savouries, you won't need Holland & Buttcrack sos rolls no more.
Roots & Fruits is a strange but friendly little cafe, good for a hungover breakfast if you want someone else to cook your Lindas and hash browns. Then if you leave the arcade at the top and turn left you can look downstairs in Relics records.
Pitza Cano does vegan pizzas, in a drunk-after-a-gig way. There's another place called Grove that some people prefer, and you can sit in.Semi-related but I can't talk about Leeds without recommending Laynes Espresso for best coffee. Pretty sure they always have a vegan sandwich too.
I've hardly been in the last few years so there's probably more...
ur gona have fun tho

Cheers mate, I'll make sure to check them out! Sounds about a million times better than Bournemouth where I am now. Well excited!

A rare weekend in the UK led me to check out a couple of 'new-ish' vegan places
Lock 7 bike cafe on Broadway Market are now doing 100% vegan waffles at the weekends. Sweet and savoury toppings, and all £3-4. I had a savoury one and it was delicious. More info and menu here http://veganphotographersproject.tumblr.com/
Also, I checked out Black Cat, which has taken over from Pogo on Clarence Road, but still retained some of the same staff- they do a pretty great breakfast and have more in the way of groceries to take home, which is cool as it's much closer to me than Vx in Kings Cross

Best vegan recipe books
There's probably a very helpful discussion about this deeper in the thread but our work IT is so slow that it's a real pain going through it- that and I'm lazy. Which ones do people recommend?

Hm, I've never bought vegan shoes in London, always went to Brighton. Definitely try Vx, but as you say, it's likely not to be a huge selection, since they seem to stock so much stuff?
If there's no London shop (and I agree that the first option should be to shop locally), there are now so many on-line retailers offering shoes. I think in design I like the ethicalwares stuff the best (and they have a huge selection), but I haven't kept up with all the new sites that have been being advertised in The Vegan.
