  • Free film pack thing

    http://www.dxo.com/intl/sony

  • How does it compare to VSCO?

  • Not used vsco, having had a quick look it's very basic. Plugged into LR it would probably be decent but don't think it let's you so you don't get much control.

    But, it's free.

  • Free film pack thing

    Needs crop-to-square & export-to-instagram button.

  • Finally getting my D7000 back from repairs.
Thinking about treating myself to a new tripod.
Currently rocking a Traveler that cost me £12 from aldi!
I would like some help, I need something that can go quite small for ease of transport, but that doesnt cost the earth (£100 or so tops)
I have no idea about heads and stuff, so any advice will be greatly received.

  • Ball head is good if you can afford it, tends to be a bit more expensive. I don't know much about tripods, but I think it's buy cheap, buy twice.

  • ^ just coming here to post that... looking forward to installing it this weekend.

  • ..no offense intended - everybody & their mother does it these days,
but since I figured out why "transform > perspective" (or "skew", or whatever for that matter)
looks so fucking *wrong *when used like this I'm rather really avoiding these buttons.

  • Sometimes it works though. I just used it on that one because there were so many vertical lines but I agree that it looks unnatural, sometimes that's ok though...

  • I like how unnatural it look, I spend quite a bit of time looking at that image because of the perfectly vertical line.

  • Agree, I really like it. You kinda have to do it to make those images work. And if you do it carefully, it's just mimicking a tilt-shift lens. (I think?)

  • ...but seriously - it is devil's work, and I'll have none of it. A world without vanishing points, it's driving me nuts.

  • Good point, never thought of it. I like it when used correctly, gives buildings almost an unreal preciseness. Over used though, nah.

Redsnapper is pretty good. I think they "copy" expensive brands but with a cheap price tag, I have a ball head tripod from them, can't fault it.

Ball head essentially gives you more control and you can move about the camera when on tripod more easily, but if you intend to do a bit of video now and then, probably a good idea to go with a 3 ways panning head. That said, if you get some decent tripod, you can always change the head depending on what you plan to do.

Rednapper gives 10% to talk photography forum members all year round, but I am pretty sure the discount code is just RED10. If in doubt just call Joe (I think) at Redsnapper and he will gladly give you 10% anyway. Really nice chap.

Good point! To be honest, I like the trippiness of it when used appropriately. I think working at an architectural mag has made me blind to it...

  • I was looking for a similar tripod last year and ended up spending around £180 because I couldn't find anything around £100 that seemed like a long term option. Ended up with a Gitzo reporter from the 70's/80's and a Leica ball head. Geared heads and panning are great options to have but small size and lightweight meant more to me.

What I do miss is a quick release plate. Otherwise you have to screw the camera onto the ball head, if the ball head is mounted on the tripod at the time it's an accident waiting to happen.

  • great pictures.. Been to Gothenburg last year and loved it!

  • The iPhone pictures are great! really nice!

it's not trippy at all. if you look straight ahead at tall buildings and just rotate
your eyeballs up your brain creates the same effect.

  • Think there's a few X100 users on the forum yeah? You got the new firmware? Finally makes manual focus useable!

  • Good point, I'll have to update mine, thank for the head up.

  • Nice to see fuji releasing new firmware for a long superseded camera. Ed, still thinking of selling yours?

    New page, new pictarz.

  • Like this! Would be good if the other bus wasn't there though.

  • Might photoshop..
