What a transformation, fantastic job.
What did you use to sand it by the way?
I used some sort of Nitro Mors paste... Then scraped the paint with a dull knife and sanded it with some regular sanding paper. For the lugs i used a flat screwdriver
stunning!
im so jealous ive been doing the opposite of you and writing essays rather than building my bike...
i think i need to take a leaf out of your bookIn fact the book i'm supposed to read is quite awesome. Andy Fields "Discovering Statistics Using SPSS (and sex and drugs and Rock 'n' Roll)". This guy has a very creative approach to statistics. haha

Now that were on to social studies....
earlier you mention you couldnt let it be ratty.. now that youve come so far and finished the project, have yyou had any regrets about not leaving it ratty? Love the final result, but just wondering...

Wow, really came out nice this one :)
Did you consider painting the headtube and adding a panel to the seattube? It does detract a little from the cleaned up look the bike currently has.

As a rat it would've been nice to ride it more often. I'm not keen on locking it how it is now outside on Amsterdam streets. But i had fun building it and will probably ride it a lot on long distance rides with mates. So no regrets i guess. Still got this as a daily commuter/rat:

Fuck that's nice...
Didn't consider it. Have some regrets now. haha -

Just seen this thread.
Very elegantly restored FLRN HSSL. Congrats.

Very nice, Florian!
Well jelly..You could always just put some white panels on with some sticker/foil you can get at a craft shop. I think they even sell some at Gamma.
Use a hair dryer or something to get it stretchy when putting it around the headtube (lugs). -

Absolute stunner in that colour. Of course you have to line those lugs now...

Probably will try out some black lining soon, i think white lining will only look good in combination with a white seat and bar tape and those will stay white for 3 days so..
First thing up are these 531 decals:
Seattube decal is all good, but the fork decals are pretty wide... i'm not sure this is going to look good:

Lush!
Bet you were well pleased finding that on a fleamarket!I'm off to Belgium next month, taking the train, but hoping i find something nice somewhere to bring back with me lol.
that colour looks better on the frame than it does on the car IMO

I agree, great restoration. Out of interest, what frame is your commuter bike?

This bike has gone through some small changes over the past few weeks.
Moved the saddle a cm more forward and bought a 90mm cinelli stem to replace the 100mm one for a better fit. Then added the Reynolds decals, some Campagnolo dust caps for the crankset and flipped the tires (the clean look of the bike in it's former state was boring me a bit).http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5025/dsc06377k.jpg
Later i added a Concor that i got for a 5er online (and changed the bar angle).

Rode it like that for a while but since my Concorde TT project is on it's ass i needed something else to keep me busy. Ordered some cheap leather online and refurbished another old Concor i had lying around and made some stitched bar wrap with it. I'll probably feel the need to wrap the whole bar at some point, maybe with different leather (this 'cracked' type of leather is a bit weaker than i thought) and re-do the saddle. Until that moment, the bike will be sort of finished looking like this.

Nice! Well classy!

Drop-bars had to go... As this is my main bike now, i needed it to be a little more practical. So risers, cheap ones, with cheap grips. Because cheap is the new black. The 70 mm shimano stem is from my parts bin. Gave my back-up Concor a new cover. This time fake leather. It stretched way better than the real leather i used on the other one.
Also: Rain Tail. Yes, it works a bit. -

Any ideas on nice fenders?
I had these SKS things (see above) but since i have no eyelets for them i had to use tie-wraps.
Need something more sturdy than that...
I am about to start restoring an old road bike, if it turned out anywhere near as good as this I would be sooooo happy!
Really nice job! Looks beautiful!
