  • I back this 100%. I would like to add a carnitas burrito from Taqueria Cancún and a tofu ranchero* super burrito from Pancho Villa into the conversation.

While we are at it, I should mention that the south-west corner of Dolores Park and a can of Oly complements any of these options nicely.

    Evidence of a solid day.

    stupid homesickness thread

    • Used to be vegetarian. This is the best one of these in that town.

I love the Veg burrito from El Buen Sabor on 18 and Guerrero

  • What's your best lunch at Borough Market?

I used to think it was the Chorizo Double, but today, Ginger Pig Sausage Roll (£3.50 for the regular, £4 for the special - today it's sweet chilli - AYEmazing) with a bag of organic mixed leaves from Chegworth Valley (£2.50 for a big bag which I'm keeping for dinner).

  • That would fill me up for about an hour. Not a proper lunch and it cost you £6.50 by the sound of it. Bag of rocket and a sausage roll from Tesco would be £2.50 and you wouldn't have to queue for an hour.

  • that's a weeks worth of snossage rolls at yer Gregg's.

  • That's about the size of a rounders ball and as dense as the centre of a black hole. You don't feel hungry after a GP sausage block.

  • No queue and it's huge. Would hurt if it was chucked at your head.
£2.50 salad would easily portion to 4.
This ain't no tesco or greggs, this is the gp

  • Tasting menu for lunch at Roka.

  • Double Brindisa Sandwich, obvs.

A roll with bubble, sausage and egg at Maria's Market Cafe, tea, and any russet apples I can pick up on the way back.

Unfortunately for my wallet and arteries Borough is about 5 minutes from the office.

  • Maria's now you're talking. Liver bap is excellent.

  • Picked up 4 Chorizo for £2.11 and 2 chili cajun lamb sausages for £1.38 from East London Sausage Company. Also popped into the spar and picked up a pot of chili bacon jam.

It was lush. Sausages very rich, so two were perfect.

  • I saw bacon jam in Tescos; I'd assumed it was a super esoteric niche thing till now.

Brining some pork belly for dinner tomorrow, got a chili on the hob to go in the freezer for the week, and then knocking up a curry that will do tonight and lunches at work.

  • This evening was the first time in a long time I had time to cook properly.
Been surviving off tuna, eggs, salad and microwavable soup for a while.
I've missed eating things that taste nice.
    Also so much cheaper.

  • http://www.the-dairy.co.uk/ <-- fucking awesome, in spite of it being in (spits) clapham.

http://www.themodernpantry.co.uk/ <-- waste of a £100 worth of scratch card winnings. cntz.

  • Anywhere that thinks they have to tell you what 'modern' and 'pantry' mean on the website are probably pretentious cunts...

  • Went to the Modern Pantry on Sat for their afternoon tea.

    Really great food.
Mostato was fucking delicious, despite being hungover, I could have easily sunk a bottle.
Moscato D'Asti 'Bricco Quaglia' 2011,. La Spinetta. Piedmont, Italy.
    Tea Library was a wank.

    Service was terrible. Absolutely lacking.

  • Has anyone got anything to say about Hoi Polloi at the Ace Hotel on Shoreditch Highe Street? Considering booking it for a birthday gift in December.

How was the pastry selection? What did you eat?

I actually had awesome service there when i went, really nice bloke. Although he did mistake a granita for a gratin.

  • Problem was the girl who was supposed to tell us what everything was, struggled...
"Er, this is a sandwich, a sweet scone, a savory, brownies..." So awkward that we were like "oh ok. thanks"

Three layer mini ciabatta sandwiches - salmon, avocado, cress
Three layer mini ciabatta sandwiches - goats cheese, peppers
Sun-dried tomato mini-scones with cream cheese and chutney
Sweet scone - pistachio(?) with cream, crusted with brown sugar, I don't really remember this because I inhaled it!
    Mini passion-fruit panacotta
Chocolate brownies with cherries - perfect texture
Something else I'm forgetting...or maybe not...

  • is this at that modern pantry shitcastle? i've had better pub food. in a wetherspoons.

  • Ooh, Wetherspoons! Might head there for lunch now...

  • I now have 7 leeks in the house. Any ideas on what to do with them? Did leek and got cheese quiche last week, so that's out

  • Classic would be leek and potato soup.
Or caramelise them as you would onions.
Or just chuck em in where you'd put onions.
    Or http://farm-direct.com/category/497-bacon-and-leek-cake.aspx?
Or make little rosti like things...

I love leeks, underused deliciousness. I sometimes just boil them up and add butter, and thats about perfect.

  • Or burn them with fire.

    I hate leeks.
