  • Possibly make use of a warm, dry, air source that can be directed over them to speed up the evaporation rate?

  • I opted to stare at them with disdain it seemed to work.

  • Going to get these later

I think extreme should cover the UK weather. Will report on usage etc.

got some of these a couple of weeks ago, they are WARM, even when wet. and i suffer from quite bad circulation.

  • Really? My feet were cold. When wet. Because they didn't do the fucking job.

  • The Planet X windblock ones are warm but I have no idea if they are waterproof at all. Plus the holes don't work well with mtb shoes

  • Yep, I found that no they are not waterproof, but on a long damp ride your feet are at least wet and warm, rather than wet and cold. i didn't really expect them to keep the water out as they are made from neoprene.

  • Heavyweight, neoprene, overshoe for deep Winter use. Tough TPU skin means rain won’t penetrate and thick neoprene gives the best level of insulation against the cold. read more

You might be able to tell that I'm wound up about this purchase.

  • £30 too! Rapha ones were only £40 last year. Is dhb the new Rapha? Is Rapha the new Altura?

Recommend the Planet X neoprene ones for the price, they are warm. I am tempted by their thin wind ones, but they do say they are not as tough as their neoprene ones, so maybe no good for the commute.

With the Planet X neoprene ones I have managed to get to work (9 miles) in very wet conditions without the water getting in. This was only possible with full mudguards which prevented surface water boucing off the downtube onto the tops of the booties.

  • Of course, neoprene is supposed to let water in right? So a warm insulated layer of water can develop?

  • pro endure h20 multi-fit overshoes

try them. be warned they are like wellies though!

  • ^^^ +1

  • Anyone know how to stop overshoes flapping up at the front? I'll be riding along and realise my feet are freezing because my overshoes (BBB Heavy duty) have come off the front of shoes. Bloody annoying.

  • As winter refuses to die, what are peoples opinions of the overshoes currently available- what's warmest, what lets in the least water?

  • PLANET X OVERSHOE ZIP

Bought these cheap from planet x and they lasted 3 rides . The zip was dicky from the start but helpfully came apart as i removed them after a wet ride this morning.

To be fair they did cope very well in the deluge i was caught in and kept my feet warm, sadly the now reside in the bin. think i might give the neoprene jobs a go

  • I like the Gore windstopper overshoes.

  • i wear the shimano tarmac H2O and serves me pretty well. just mind their sizes though.

  • Toe cover thingies. I want some packable ones for the evening leg of an epic ride. Suggestions

  • I have a pair of these on their third year of service - I really like them...

If you are on a budget though, I daresay these are practically identical (disclaimer: I have never actually seen them)...

  • Found these pretty cheap.

I have the worlds largest cleats though. Might go for a Assos summer bootie instead.

For winter I'll have proper hardcore winter shoes tucked under the inbuilt gaitors of my AMfib bib tights.

  • Rather embarrassingly I also have a pair of those...

There's nothing wrong with them and they are less bulky than the above choices - however they are also less warm, non-waterproof and prone to snag on Sidi Tecno fasteners. I also wore a hole in the front within 2 weeks. I got mine half-price years ago and I still use them (usually under overshoes) so can't really complain - I wouldn't pay the RRP though...

  • I found flat pedals, trainers and overshoes to be the most practical option last winter but,
a)I went through 2 sets of Planet X overshoes because platform pedals tear up the soft underside of them,
b)The uppers of the Planet X overshoes are very waterproof but will still leak on very wet days and,
c)The holes in the sole that allow cleat access are another way for water to get in and in my case are unnecessary.

Thusly I'm considering some of these this winter,

Worried I'll look like a total twunt though.

  • Hey,

I'm looking for some overshoes that will fit my MTB specialized BG shoes. I really need them to be properly waterproof. Any ideas?

    Cheers.

  • Great, thanks bud.

  • I've have 3 pairs so far. All of them don't last longer than few months because of walking around in them they get torn up. The sidi looked good but wouldn't take more than 2 miles before the water seeped through. Alturas were rubbish and fell to bits very quickly. I'll be buying specialized again from the shop in covent garden.
I'd team them up with seal skin socks for long rides.
