Can't you use a bike garmin? I was going to use mine, as I don't really fancy buying more shiny electronic breakable things - you'd look a bit (more) daft but it would work, wouldn't it?

I could do - but I don't have one. It's a pisser that even the cheapest Garmins cost £90+
