  • Any good ones in Leeds?

    You kidding?

  • Wish the Leicester one was still open! I'm building a track bike and would loved to have a blast on it!

  • ^ you'll be able to go to Derby soon. Much nicer there anyway.

  • Anyone got any more info on the maindy track? Google is being a bitch... I'm moving back to cardiff come September and i'm looking for somewhere to stretch my legs

  • Why ride Maindy when Newport is 30 minutes away?

  • Maindy is like a 4 minute ride down the road from where i'll be living this year so it's pretty convenient... and since I'm leaving my car in london, I'd either have to cycle there or cough up for a train

  • Is the Maindy track outdoors/concrete?

  • The leicester track was brilliant, its a big loss to the area.

  • Soon to be one at York too.

  • The more the better.

  • It would be better though if they were all indoors. Then there would never be an "off" season. and invariably it would generate enough money year round to keep it going even when the fad dies away and numbers dwindle.

  • York looks good.

Indoor velodromes don't make money, the track limit is too small and the running costs too high. As rumour has it there are only 2 dedicated cycling facilities in the uk that don't need to be subsidised by council/governing body/other which are Herne Hill and Hillingdon.

  • Is that an actual fact or do other newer facilities have investment and/or build/regeneration costs sat in their P&L's? Thinking about somewhere like Hogg Hill, the running costs must be pretty small if the work is done and paid for, the frequency and participation of races must surely pay for the upkeep of that small building?

  • Not to dilute the discussion, but I would be really interested to know if you were including MTB centres in Wales and Scotland in that?

So just Herne Hill then ;)

  • Yeah, went there last week and it was great!

  • what are the hire bikes at the London velodrome? anyone done the accreditation sessions yet or is that only starting next year? do they have to be done in a short space of time? Id like to fly over some weekend but not sure I can do it all in the 1 trip

  • There is a proposal for one in Cambridge, which would be Ideal for me.

  • Condor do the London track not Dolan

  • You mean Condor bikes at the London track? Exclusively?

  • Hire bikes anyway, not your own ! where not talking spesh roubaix here.

Is there an official opening date for Derby yet?

  • Official - no, but Derby's website says plans are to complete it in October, to be opened in January:
