Won't the bikes already have said cables connecting levers to brakes on the bikes?
I wouldn't trust them if they've been in a shed for 10 years

However, we have promised to convert 10 of their mountain bikes into single speed polo bikes...
I need a mechanic on here to come and take a look at the bikes to see what we're gonna need to make them work... Off the top of my head we'll need:
• Double levers
• Chain tensioners
• Cassette spacers
• Brake cableDepends a bit on what gear the bikes are already running, and what the current attitudes are to ghetto singlespeeds with a cassette, using the rear mech as a tensioner.
You may also need to consider some way to cover up or remove exposed chainrings. -

bugger off sock shopping bloddy norferner.

We'll need new brake cables because swapping out the lever means you won't always be able to get the cable back through the outer...
Or is this just me? New cables, I reckon...
So, who wants to co-ordinate this? You don't need to be a qualified mechanic, but you deffo need to know what you are doing... I could manage it but I'm cack-handed at the best of times... Nik? Jimmy? Seb?

Added single chainring bolts to the list.
Just heard back from HH... They're happy for us to play all day (while everyone else is tidying up around the track) as we've already done a lot of work building the court... Gonna try and get some lights for later on on the day too...

Who wants to step up and get this done? I'm not a mechanic so not the best person to get this going...

Assuming they're not one-piece chainsets.

Dammit! I was gonna add those to the list, knew I'd forgotten something...

I take it the bikes are at HH? I can head down (possibly tomorrow) but definitely early next week, take pics and document what each one needs to be ready.
Didn't do anything for the court build there, so happy to help with this.

That'd be brilliant, Apollo... PM me your email address and I'll get you hooked up with the HH bods...

oooh 'rantlers.

In that case you'll need tyres, tubes and chains too (and probably headset and bb bearings)...
Ts most mountain bike brake levers have a slot so you can take the brake cable out of the lever without removing the cable from the outer... Like the following dual levers:

But if we are using DIY levers you will have to take the cables out and thread it through the rod which holds the cable. Besides, cables are not that expensive anyway and will be useful having them around just in case they are need.

I suppose there's a few levels of fixing that can be done from just getting them up and running to making them totally awesome.
no point talking too much about it until we've inspected them, everything else is just speculation...

Forum 24... 99% unhelpful speculation, 1% anyone actually doing anything...

Thanks to Apollo for stepping up...
This is in motion now, it'd be fantastic if someone else with mad workshop sklz could help out as well... I'm chipping in but, as already mentioned, I am a shite wrench...

Just waiting on their email right?
Monday/tuesday seems good. I'll take some tools down just to check for stuck seatposts etc (hope there's none) and will report back.
-
• #71
Yup, they should get back to us soon... Cheers, man!

• #72
You going down within working hours Apollo? If not I will join you.

I can help with the bikes fixing. I worked 5 years as mechanic although I keep breaking derrauliers XD
I have a piece of paper saying I'm a mechanic.
I can do trade orders through Moore Large, but their stuff is crap.
If we could get a photo of the particulars we could get an order list together.
I'd be up for putting in a day to do it.
