Good shout. That said I would (eventually) want to coach top level and/or up and coming riders. Feel Ive got a lot to give, and while I've got quite a lot of experience racing, and coaching youngsters (mainly track), needless to say I've still got a lot to learn.

Made a return to the Monsal Hill Climb today. By the simple expedient of dropping 8kg and adding 1 tooth to the rear cog I was able to shave 21 seconds off. Hardly a stellar performance but at least I wasn't second last and more than double the time of the winners.
Next year I might even do some training in an attempt to break the 2 minute barrier.
This year's result was 2.27.4. Happy enough with that, especially as my main speciality is hill dodging on audax rides.

Also, for those contemplating a HC this year, if you haven't emptied the tank this much, you haven't tried hard enough.

Wow.

Wow indeed...

Did he win?

He's a winner alright.

There are a number of similar finshes to hill climbs from him.
JESUS WEPT. -

Against the likes of Russell Downing, Graham Briggs and Jack Pullar? No Paul didn't "win". But in the Race Of Truth stakes, yeah Paul is a winner every time.
He's also the person who fixes my bikes from time to time. Lovely bloke all round.

That's commitment summed up.
Mad bastard.

Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed.

Last chance to enter the Bristol South Burrington Hill-Climb - 20th Oct:
https://evententry.ctt.org.uk/Account/Logon/58479Currently at 96 entries - its an awesome climb of ~ 2miles in the Mendips (which goes past the Rock of Ages as it so happens for all you poetry fans).
Very suitable for riding fixed as well - 55-60GI reccommended (It was won last year on fixed)
As mentioned before for anyone that has done the Exmouth Exodus, this is the first big hill (before the descent down Cheddar Gorge)

I love that hill. Both times that I've done the EE, it was in torrential rain, with streams flowing down the road.

If you have decided not to ride this event because you think you are not going to beat Nic Stagg, think again, because I've just heard he will not be riding owing to work commitments.
So it's wide open!

Would it have been better to let that guy on the Monsal Dale Hill climb lie down, rather than trying to prop him up on his bike?

Is he dead ?
-

James - By the time you've lifted him off his bike and carried him to a clear spot to lie down on, he would have recovered.
Nick-Nack - He was sending tweets the day after the event so I'm going to suggest he's still alive. I hope he is, my headset is a creaking a bit more than is acceptable and I think I need him to replace it.

Thanks for arranging yesterday's Sporting 27 Chris, still gutted and annoyed that I didn't road test the bike properly. Sorry I didn't hang around, had to shoot home as my son (who's autistic) was having a bit of a bad day.

A clubmate won our hill climb once, collapsed at the end and ended up in hospital. Apparently he tore some stomach muscles with the strain. His mum never let him ride another one!

The Bristol South CC hillclimb at Burrington Combe was a great success.
An excellent turnout - over 100 riders and we were incredibly lucky with the weather, as it was dry throughout and with only a stiff headwind rather than the gale force winds and driving rain that was forecast....This didn't really help me though, as I felt like a sack of spuds and only managed to improve my time from last year by a couple of seconds. Just one of those days where you turn the pedals and it feels like there is nothing there... Managed 29th
Borek got 16th and looked to be flying
2013 Bristol South CC HillClimb - Daniel Burbridge - 08.59.4 mins - YouTube
Think I will do some proper hill climb training next year though - as I do enjoy them. Time to start riding CX now anyway...

Bit late to the party but another rider's 24hr report..

If you're coaching you should be aware of the UCI restrictions but you shouldn't limit your riders to them unnecessarily.
Below the top level you'd need to be pretty blatantly outside their parameters to get done anyway.
