Protect your bubble do good travel insurance for about £20 (one trip) or £44 (all trips for a year). It includes a tiny £75 excess, cancellation, luggage, cash, cycling, medical, etc and no-one seems to bitch about that company online.
Choose Visa Waiver Program via ESTA (as you're a UK citizen), the rest is easy.
