The Manfriend is making a Cargo Bike with a 5 speed built-in brake, you can chat him when it's done.
I've grown up on bikes with SA drum brakes they don't cack out in the wet and stopping power is good. Yeah it ain't no disc brake but who is going to go 40 MPH downhill on a roadster anyway... :P
You need to change the pads but only rarely. Very handy commuting option.
