  • You are basically comparing him to some exceptional players clearly better than him (Owen, Shearer) and to some players who had one (or maybe a few) good season(s).

    Basically he is a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 striker and always has been. 1 in 2 based on starts, 1 in 3 based on appearances including subs. This is basically from his debut for Bournemouth, through to Tottenham and including England.

    Is he one of the world's best all round strikers? No.

    Is he suited to the modern game / 451? Not particularly.

    On what basis is he a streaky striker? On the basis that he is not Ronaldo or Messi, and on the basis that the person making the claim expects his strikers to score every other game without fail.

    No, I'm looking at his playing career (02-now) and seeing how often he's in the top 10. twice.
    With such luminaries as Peter Crouch and James Beattie. AND DIRK KUYT.
