Looks to be from the one I've got - the QC and SN numbers are in the same format and the same location as the ones on my other Fundas. I certainly can't tell them apart, other than the lack of branding.

Great, thanks. I am assuming (as with a lot of other cheap PX stuff) that it's OEM stuff supplied for shop builds, hence without retail packaging etc. The shape and details look identical. Just wanted to be sure.

hmm mine seem fine. user error? it's a small Allen slot so you're obviously not meant to put much torque into it.

More dismal service from Planet X. Building a winter/CX bike from a Plug frame, have a hydraulic front disc for it, after searching for a suitable fork went for the Pomptamine steel one. Got the fork last Tuesday, took it to the LBS to fit the crown race. After a few minutes trying the mechanic said there was a 2mm discrepancy. We checked it against other headsets and they said the fork was over-sized. Phoned up Planet X and essentially they said that it is impossible, that it's been tried with loads of different headsets and is a standard size. Went to a second shop and they said exactly the same thing as the first.
Spoke to Planet X again who still seem to think I was being a Moro. And trying to fit it wrongly or something. I explained two shops are saying this, they asked for photos which I sent immediately. And waited for a reply. And waited. Emailed again. And waited again.
Eventually got a reply today which basically and patronisingly explained to me how to fit a crown race, how the tolerances were very tight and that they may need to be tapped onto the fork using a pipe and a hammer. No shit, really?
So completely ignored the fact shops were saying this to me, and are still insistent the problem is I'm a moron. Told them I'm going to send the fork back and can send the crown race too since me and the local mechanics are too stupid to fit it and they know better (in a more polite manner).
Leaves me short of a bike now the weather is turning, should just demand a refund but I can't find many other suitable forks apart from expensive carbon ones.

thats the worst thing with planet x. having the staff talk to you in a very pathetic manner.
almost as if its company policy to employ sarcastic little 14 year old boys.
the shop is not that far away. one day i hope to pay them a visit.
if the staff really are all LITTLE BOYS, i promise to be gentle. -

They all look like shiney, clean x-factor contestants,
Ready to patronize and belittle,And theres always a MAMIL at the counter droning on and on and on about the latest di2 carbotanium groupset....

i'm thinking of getting the planet x carbon track frame.. does anyone know what its like? stiff/flexy etc.. or would it be worth me getting something else..

lots of people race on them at Herne Hill, including plenty of 16 stone sprinters - I image they are pretty stiff.

Apologies for hacking the thread (yet again) but I really need to share my frustration.
I received my irder almost 3 weeks after placing the order to find out that they have sent me the CK headset with the old logos (see attached pic).
Their listing: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/HSCKNT/chris_king_nothreadset
Pictured and made reference to the new headset!!!
I cannot wait for a replacement... I am really anxious to built the bike.
Seriously, what can I do with these guys ??
Not sure if this is the right place, but had some terrible experience with Planet X recently. Probably most furstrating online transaction, I had so far !!!
Bought a Columbus minimal 1" Carbon fork + Chris King 1" headset.
Before placing the order I gave them a call asking whether the above items were compatible and whether I would need anything else to built my bike.
They failed to mention that I would need an alternative puller since the CK comes with a starnut (not suitable for carbon fiber forks).
3 days after placing the order they came back with an email saying that they could not locate the silver CK headset in their warehouse and they asked me whether I wanted to replace with a black one.
Gave them a call asking if they could provide any alternatives in silver and when the CK silver would be back in stock. They responded that I had to go for the black or they could cancel my order and refund. They asked me to respond to the original email once I made up my mind.
I responded to the email saying that I would go for the black one.
A day latter still no shipping confirmation.
Gave them a call yet again! I asked whether my order was updated and shipped.
They responded that no one had seen my email as the person handling my case was doing reception for the day???
Asked them to update order and ship immediately!!!
They responded that since it was already Friday my order would probably have to wait until Monday.
Send an email explaining how frustrated I was asking them to post my order ASAP using courrier to make up for the whole delay.
Did not respond to this email at all.
Posted my order using regular (non courrier) service on Sunday!

just build it up? its only a logo. i thought people bought CK headsets for their amazing quality, not cos they're a must have brand.

This is probably what I am doing.
My frustration comes from the fact that I was looking for something understated as it is going on a classic steel framed bike.First preference was silver which they said the had (but didnt, hence the mix up) and second was black sotto logos !

They are also showing a brown SV headset listed as the 'pewter' colour, so who knows what you'd get delivered.
If I'd paid £90-100 I'd want the right logo as well, tbh, the old ones are quite shouty. Maybe see if Aspire can get you one quickly and then return the other one to PX. The price with shipping is about the same, you just risk import duty from the US.

+1 It's a lot of money, so you are right to not compromise.
I'd complain and send it back. Find a cheaper option to tide you over until it's sorted. Plenty good enough headsets out there for £25.

I will always check PX for bargains, but won't buy any of their components again. I have come a cropper with the CNC brakes and a chain tensioner.
Also annoying they don't come with instructions. The brakes are fiddly and come with parts. The chain tensioner exploded out of the bag and I had no idea how to put it back together. Guessed my way through each scenario, correctly thankfully, but have since replaced both with superior (and cheaper) products.

I'v never had a problem with the CNC brakes. You do have to put decent brake pads on them though. They're just not for fatties.

Would hardly call Sam a fatty.

Genesis Croix de Fer fork, look like the Plug's original but with disc tab.

But seriously this;

The only thing is are they actually "the old logos"? I thought CK just decided to release a less shouty* version called Sotto Voce. Obviously the pictures should match the description though.

Hello,
does anyone know where planet x get their frames made? I heard someone say they use manufacturers in china. Does anyone know the details of the manufacturer? I cant believe some of their prices! also are they connected to on-one?

the UK distributer for CK have stopped importing the non-Sotto Voce models (except black I think), i found this out a bit a go and had to order from the US for the white logo, CK make them still and sell them equally in the US but we only seem to get SV as someone as the distributer must have decided its newer so lets go with that

So.
