It occurs to me that if I were to really go to town on the above list many of my choices would be women. Particularly women over 40. I wonder whether this is a result of the lack of intelligent or generous scripting for women and the fact that those who take their art seriously have to target really awesome opportunities and commit wholly to a project to get anything done that isn't patronising drivel? Women have to announce their 'sincerity' in time to maintain their career through what the studio system see as twilight years, whereas the Clooneys of this world get to maintain poise and goof off at will. A woman in Hollywood has to be more lateral in her approach if she takes filmmaking seriously and wants to continue her relationship with it.

True, unfortunately. And often end up playing mums/grandmas while male characters go off with younger female characters. Ergh.
