  • Aliums have been made for a while and used to be very good for entry-level, but over the last few years the springs have been failing/snapping.

    Roc were similar (not sure if the springs failed too), although the metal decorative plates would come off from time-to-time.

    The XC2 to XC12 are the repositioned/rebranded models, the old names are discontinued, I've no idea if much has changed.

    I bought some XC2s for my Dad recently (XC2 are not adjustable) and they look sound enough, time will tell if they are better than the Aliums (which I now avoid like the plague after having two pairs fail).

    I tend to use equivalent of XC8+ on my bikes (which used to be called XS, etc) as the tension is adjustable, they're marginally lighter and the springs are the super solid square type.
