  • My cover has been working ok but it's not enough! The front end of my daily hack bike has been heading south and is feeling better and better. The Giant i've not ridden for a while and now feels ridiculously high at the front. I'm heading down the -17* stem route.

  • Tester do you by any chance have any of these? Someone pointed out that one of them could help with my dwarf steerer problem...

  • Tester do you by any chance have any of these?

Not until I make some more, will be at least a month.

  • Ok I'm sure I will live another month. Thanks

  • So, I actually got around to doing a new drawing, MK2 version will have a radius where the Mk1 had a chamfer. I'm going to get some made with 45mm diameter and 2mm inside depth, same dimensions as before to fit Cane Creek headset type IS41, 41.0mm/36°/45°. If anybody wants any other sizes, speak now or forever hold your peace. 46mm diameter should be right for anything with a Campag style headset, type IS42, 41.8mm/45°/45°, but I can do bigger ones for anybody with a really thick walled head tube. Now is the time to tell me if you need more skirt depth to get the cover to fit close to the top of the head tube. Obviously, I could make them all deep and let you shim between the compression ring and the cover to fine tune the clearance, but that kind of defeats the object of slammage.

Also, let me know if you want one in raw finish (silver), and I'll pull one out between lathe and anodising bath.

  • A list might be a good idea, for anybody who wants to be sure of getting one from this batch.

  • I'm not sure if the gap on mine could be improved or how.

If you think it could, I'd be in for another

  • To me it looks as though your compression ring (coloured blue in the diagram attached) is sticking too far out of the bearing. Are you sure you haven't got any shims on top of the compression ring? I could do you a deeper cover, but that would just be covering up the problem.

Total height of 4.5, depth of recess 3.5, yes? They will all be radiused rather than the chamfer design shown in post 9

  • Yes. Radiused not a problem.

    Thanks.

  • I'm interested in one of these for my Giant Defy (2013 if that matters) with an IS42 type headset, I have no idea what depth I need though. Any ideas?

  • You need to measure the outside diameter of the head tube and the depth from the top of the compression ring to the top of the head tube
