  • Again I have to disagree, I wish I had spent double and got the Park one.

Aldi does the job, just about, but I have to hold the bike steady with one hand to do anything requiring the slightest exertion of force. Really is a bit mickey mouse.

I've been thinking about reassembling it using carbon paste to see if it holds any sturdier.

  • My Aldi one has been absolutely fine. No complaints.

  • Ach well, you get what you pay for. I paid for a decent bike stand that will get occasional use. No complaints.

  • Moe expensive, but I got one of these: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TOBSART92/bicisupport_professional_team_workstand

It's awsome, built like a tank, will last forever and holds your fragile crabon roadies without worrying about tubes being crushed or fannying about with cheap seat posts purely for stand duties.

Edit: Was also cheaper when I got it...£104, I think.

Or there is the cheaper, slightly less convenient, but just as functional alternative: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TOBSART76/bicisupport_professional_workstand

  • The only part of the Aldi one I have issue with is the plastic clamp that secures the the horizontal arm that holds the bike.

It is impossible to get it tight enough that it wont rotate. The stated weight limit is 25kg but the bike I put on can not be more than 10kg, yet it immediately swivels as soon as you touch the bike. ANd as it is plastic, repeated overtightening would surely result in breakage?

You also have to have the arm pushed out fully to stop the cranks hitting the stand when rotating pedals. This means there is a huge amount of leverage on the plastic clamp which again means it will surely break.

Second that think it was £20 bargain, does the job okay. No complaints and for that price it lives in the garden. Boo yea free space in the house!

  • mmmm sauerkraut

    thanks for the alert!

  • Can I just say, that the light set, the silver torch type one with back light. The back light is a bit shit, but the front light is really good. Takes AAA batteries but lasts a long time between replacement, I get 10 or 12 packs of batteries from the pound shop. Really bright, with flashing, constant and burst features. I'm getting a second one to double up for the dark months on the commuter. I've dropped it, used it hiking in the rain, used it in the mountains in the snow. really good buy for that money.

  • The gloves are great for the price, paired with a liner glove they went all through the snow and ice of last year!

  • I'm going to give the "winter trousers" a go this year, the long lycra ones not the baggy ones. Hoping to keep up the commute all through winter now I've moved near a bus route (was at the top of a big hill before that didn't get gritted.)

The winter jackets are good as well, although unfortunate colours, I've had one for a couple of years and it's super warm.

  • I want the spoke things, I also want to know how many triathathings owning a bike with Zipp wheels would really buy their tri suit from Aldi.

  • I'll also vouch for the tool set as a great starting point for beginners.

Above average quality for the price. Only the chainwhip was sub par.

  • I see the base layers are 100% merino again, they used to be and had a great rep but then they went to 30% merino and weren't so good.
Now says 100% merino again. Might try the tights.

  • Thursday 26th? Looks like I'll be heading down there

  • Have an Aldi pretty much next door to my flat - does all this stuff go dead quick so I should get in first thing, or does it hang around for a while so I should be just fine at the end of the day?

Never know, save where you can I guess...

    get in quick I say...

  • Yeah tends to get raided early doors.

If in doubt on sizing, buy 2, as you can return the one that doesn't fit at your leisure... I just grab and dash.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

Sadly payday is not until monday....
