Errr off hand I don't remember, but I would guess by the feel of them the same as you. I did't want them to be rock hard.
I'm now wondering if I should leave the front rack on my tark bike (once iIve got new forks made) and get a nice stainless rack for this.
Should have some nice photos with the mudguards by tonight too
