  • Was thinking of replacing my pista but having decided to keep it for a bit longer decided to have a go with some nitromors after coming across this thread. Didnt go the whole hog, just the downtube logo.

Pleasantly surprised with the result. The clearcoat on the entire bike has taken some abuse over the years so slightly chipped and cloudy in places. Where it has been removed is mirror shiny.

Tempted to do the whole frame in time but might ride it like this for a while and see how I like it.

  • Re:Removing charge plug decals off a chrome frame - anyone cracked this yet? Want to remove mine!

  • if just stickers over the paint then :

hot water from the kettle and use plastic ice scraper if needed.
then remove glue with solvent - white spirit or whatever.

  • Has anyone tried removing the decals from a Dolar Pre Cursa? I have seen a few that have had the rear decals removed so its obviously doable but I have no Idea the though of a scalpel seems scary.

  • Does anyone know how to get the decals off a dolan pre cursa? it looks like its been lacquered over or heat treated, is there a way to get them off except for sanding down and re spraying?

  • nitromors

  • Stanley knife blade

  • nitromor will strip the black paint away aswell no? not really looking to respray but it might be the only option atm

and yeah i've had a go with a scalpel and it takes the top layer or lacquer off

might just sand down and respray, meh

    has anyone else tried anything?

  • I tried taking mine off with a blade but it appears baked on - it only comes away in small flaky bits, would be a nightmare to remove fully and probably look shit - I went for electrical tape in the end

  • the dolan pre cursas are black base coat decals then matt laquer, theyll be no way to remove the decals and leave it looking nice, ive got the track champ and was sick of the decals, ive taking it down the bare ally and clear coated it raw, looks lovly.

  • Baked, got a photo of it? I'm thinking of doing the same. Maybe putting a single small black decal.

  • sand the decals off, spray over the frame in black.

Also need help on this ^

Can anyone share their expertise? Much appreciated in advance :)

  • This is also slightly irrelevant but I didn't want to start a whole new thread.

So I have a pair of Dura Ace 7600 hubs that I got for a great bargain.

I am thinking about taking the black plastic caps off but am not sure what I will find underneath, black paint, glue etc?

Before you ask, why ruin a hub, Its because the caps are already damaged, I want to make the hubs less thief friendly and I prefer a classic all silver hub.

If anyone has had any experience taking these off please let me know how. I am also keen to know how much work will need to be done on the metal underneath the caps.

  • I have just got hold of a lovely Brian Rourke with an as new spray job done by Rourke Cycles which I really don't want to ruin. However, the previous owner, who had the spray job done, had a sticker of his name put on the top tube which is underneath the lacquer. Is there anything I can use to remove the lacquer which won't damage the paint underneath, so I can remove his name and put mine there.

    Thanks

  • I did this with a carbon frame, since its custom name I imagine its just thick vynal with very little adhesion to the frame / paint. You may be able to use a craft knife to get the edge and just peel it off with little to no damage to the paint and minor damage to the surrounding clear coat. some clear coating is more brittle though, so will crack off easier.

I had a dave lloyd that was done the same, the large dave lloyd logos where peeled from under a 2nd clearcoat the bike had, left a pretty cool effect.

  • Change your name.

  • Change your name.

That way you can steal all the rest of his shit and claim it as your own.

I mean, you already know where he lives...

  • Going to have to give this a go, covering the decals up with electrical tape is a good idea to see if the look is worth all the effort.

  • ive got the track champ and was sick of the decals, ive taking it down the bare ally and clear coated it raw, looks lovly.

    whats it look like stripped?

  • I am picking up one of the small 'clearance' frames with a defect in the decals. Has anyone thought of taking a tin of Chiminea or auto spray paint to the decals? Give it a few thin/light coatings?
