Basically slamming the stem means mounting it in the lowest possible position i.e. no spacers. Needless you want your bars in whatever position that suits your riding style, so don't worry about it if you're comfortable the way it is. That said, it does seem almost comical to use steerer spacers in combination with a negative stem... Just saying :)

thanks for the clarification Linchey, but comical?! I disagree, after all you dont see traditional quill stems dive straight from the headset top? (if that maketh any sense)

Personal preference, don't worry about me, your build is fine. I'm just saying that steerer spacers and a negative stem is counteractive. Personally I would prefer to lose the spacer and choose a stem with the right length and angle to achieve the desired bar position, that's all.

fair enuff, I appreciate your point too...
as for comical, what about negative stems with loadsa spacers and a riser bar?! now, this I call comical and believe you me when I say ye come across plenty horrors like this in certain "ambients" ...
if I ever get an itch to try a riser, I'll make sure to turn the stem around first!
*sorry if this has gone OT

Live and let live... Some people like the look I suppose , but too me it doesn't make sense.

Seems like there trying to recreate the jaguar stem look?
I never liked those stubby Cinelli stems anyway, personal taste

I'll admit that I like the look of my bike's cockpit a lot right now, but them "Pista" 65deg stems come in all lenghts, and I chose the 80mm only 'cuz it put me in a spot-on position re. the front wheel's hub, certainly not for looks.
am an absolute beginner re. road/track bikes btw, with a fast-ageing body, and admittedly loads to learn yet.
all the best.

Anyone using a Pre Cursa with full mudguards and 25mm tyres?
I'd go for the FXE but I don't need the tt cable run, or all of those looong chainstays.

Haven't tried yet, but that's my plan for winter. Have had a 35c crosstyre on the rear, so I assume it's roomy enough.

Keep us posted pls. I figured it's probably possible. They come with drilled 'ends and can fit the tabbed fork. But I actually don't think I've ever seen one with full sks 'guards so would like to know before pulling the trigger.
And I don't really trust answers from Dolan 100%.

Might just buy a CX frame...

I'll try as soon as I've got a working arm.

It's roomy enough at the back end of the dropouts (20mm'ish) - clearance with 35 continentalCX tyre

Interested.. which wheels are you using to fit 35s on there?
What's the rest of the bike made up from?.. as I'm looking into a precursa/fxe build and was wondering what it's like on tyres bigger than 23mm.

Navigator pista - the rest is S75, SCR-5 brake hood (rear is ghost), compact drop, road fork (where you can only fit 28c).

I'm close to pressing the button and ordering an FXE frame (only) or Precursa frame (only) for a town bike - 3.5-5 mile trips in normal clothes. I currently have an Espresso crank in black with a 107 UN54 BB on my steel fixie, and I want to use it on the new frame but I realise it may not give a good chain line or may foul the frame. I am using Omega wheels with the stock unbranded hub - flip flop.
I've read in this forum that Dolan changed the 2013 Precursa and FXE chainstays to make them wider so that they don't work with the tried and tested hub/bb/crank combinations people have used in the past.
Dolan use RD2s, has anyone fitted cranks to a recent build - with a 2013 frame? What did you use?

The Espresso is 130bcd right? Then you'll be fine I think (the problem relates to the long&fat spider on 144bcd chain set).

Realised I've never posted mine here, despite having it for about a year now.
Here are photo before the seatpost cracked due to someone who shall remain nameless over tightening it:

there's still a 10mm spacer there, yes, I'm not a young 'un, an' that's what my back allows me!
edit: I just realized that I may have misinterpreted the usage of the term slamming... please O wise 'uns, illuminate me, as I'm also not a native speaker of the English idiom. ;)
