Any recommendations for a good midweight winter shell and a base layer? Hard to get a feel for it on the www, and don't want to go shopping. 5'10" and 170 lbs

I can only speak for what I use but I like both my ronhill lightweight number (i can't find it online now but it's their lightest weight one). I've only ever felt I needed more during ultras and for them I use a "berghaus voltage" - I bought it in a hurry with very little research but it's light enough and fully waterproof.
