^^ Having ridden to Whitstable and, recently, Southend in the pissingallnight rain I can safely say no cycling gloves are waterproof. Carry a spare pair, is the best advice I can offer.
Mind you, how about a pair of rubber gloves over merino/silk liners as an option?
