It's not the lack of detail, its that it near enough has nothing to do with the book. If you make a move based on a book, you'd expect SOME elements to be present no?
The zombies weren't the main aspect of it. It was the general planetary reaction to it. The reoccurring idea that as a conscious human, you could potentially go extinct, and can never ever be safe anymore! The idea that fuck trying to find a solution, I just want to live! becomes far more paramount. It was completely missed in the movie and was just replaced but an unnecessary need to jump across the planet to find one.
The fear of zombies isn't so much as facing hordes of them, its more to do with never being able to switch off and be carefree. You are always the prey.
Like tibbly said, it's not "shit" shit, it just shouldn't have been based on something that garnered attention for completely different reasons.
