  • Murtle? His stuff looks awesome so would be worth asking the question.

  • hmmmmmm....

  • :)

  • Pilot question:

Does anyone know if the Hi-Tec C is named anything different in the UK? Can't seem to find them.

I picked up a three pack of Pilot G-Tec-C4 to try them out (don't usually go for a rollerball)

    It's the 0.4mm nib.

Much finer than I'd normally opt for and the length of the pen is a little short for my masculine fingers. But as a precision pen for sketching some truly excellent doodles and wasting paper, it ain't half bad.

Wish they came on their own though rather than having to buy three in blue.

But my question still stands - how similar are they to the Hi-Tec C? And if they're completely different, where can I find one? Don't want to order online if I can avoid it.

Still in love with the idea of Pen Type A which runs a 0.5mm Hi-Tec C nib:

I did the same thing. The Pn Type A sthing looks fantastic so I thought I'd see what the G Tec was like to write with. On Pilot's American website there's a G Tec C but no G-Tec C4 Microtip and the situation is reversed on the UK site where I could only find the G-Tec C4 Microtip.

Given how similar they appear, I assume the two are the same and just given different names in different regions.

Glad I did the research because the pen is awful!

  • Thanks

:) Takes a bit of getting used to compared to the things I normally write with, but I guess it has a different purpose in mind.

Ultimately my writing is so messy I doubt it'll make a huge difference (though my wrist has been aching a bit as I hold it slightly differently to counter the shorter length).

  • Just had another look - at the refills available:

    http://www.pilotpen.co.uk/products/index.php?size=&pos=18&search=Refills

Halfway down the page it lists the BLSGC4 as a "
Refill for G-Tec-C4, Begreen Hi-Tec-C" so the refill is the same, and the case is slightly different (Begreen is recycled)

  • Interesting - thanks!

  • Just bought this to replace my missing Lamy 2000:

    Lamy CP1 Black Tri-Pen 756

However I asked them to swap out the black ballpoint for a blue one - so the colour band on the middle of the grip doesn't correspond (shows black, is blue) but not the end of the world. The action takes a little getting used to. It's a twister and with three options it's easy to over-twist and go past the one you want. Particularly as blue - the most commonly used one - is in the middle. There's also an orange ballpoint which functions as a highlight (it's quite a fat nib and the colour of the ink is a beautiful vibrant orange that really stands out). The third function is a mechanical pencil. I've not used mechanical pencils in years and don't remember them very fondly but I've done some sketches this afternoon and it's a dream. I suspect that's in part down to the graphite used. There's also a replacable rubber in the top under the cap.

The weight of the pen is lovely - not sure what it's made of, but it feels solid. Think it was 44 quid or something.

The shop had the 2000 4-colour there but I thought I'd opt for something new.

I like the view-switch action on the 2000 to change between colours (i.e. it's weighted so that whichever colour/side is facing you, when you click it, that's the colour that will appear) but I rarely used green and overall it was just a litttttttle bit too fat to hold.

This is much thinner and fits more neatly in my moleskin. Giddy with excitement.

Incidentally, the shop I visited was called Pen to Paper and is on Sydney Street in Brighton - lovely collection of notebooks and pads and some quite decent (but not flash) pens.

  • Up from the 36 chambers!!!!!

Returning this to life as I'm hoping someone has some answers. I've for a couple of Impega gel pens, full of ink which refuse to write, all I'm leaving is blank trails of frustrated scrawling. Anyone know how to bring them back to life or am I going to have to chuck them and buy some more.

    Let me know...

  • pop them in the microwave alongside some kittens. full power for ten minutes.

  • ^ doesn't really help you but I quite like this online shop cultpens:
    http://www.cultpens.com/index.html

I found them because I was after a Zebra F-701. They have a really good range of stock and seem pretty friendly.

  • Currently using a Muji mechanical pencil with blue lead, a stainless steel Parker Jotter fountain pen with green in, and a steel and white Parker Jotter ballpoint with black ink

  • Going to grab an all stainless steel Jotter when I can be arsed

  • @ramaye, just the ink refill, or the whole goddamned pen.
Don't have a microwave at home so will have to wait till I get to work to see if it magically starts being usable, but don't want to cover the interior with red ink if it goes tits up..

  • Have you tried putting a small drop of vinegar on the end and standing it nib up to see if that clears the blockage?

  • Amazing that this thread came when it did - anyone direct me to a decent pen loop (something by which I can non-permanently attach a pen to which ever book I'm reading?).

  • anyone got any suggestions on pens similar or better, than the uni-ball or gel ink impega.
I've started a new job and all they've got to write with are super cheap ball points and I need something half decent but cheapish so I can bulk buy.

Let me know otherwise I'll just buy a box of 12 uni-balls off that there amazon..

  • My current fave pens... Cretacolor Ecologie clutch pencil and a #streetgoth flavoured Fisher Space Pen...

  • I use it with a sanguine stick.

I bought a box of them from Amazon recently for cheap, great pens.

  • Do you even pen, yo?

  • Just received a few of the dotted leuchtturm 1917 A5 hardback notebooks from first stop stationers. www.firststopstationers.co.uk

Overall very nice. Not an huge difference from moleskins as far as I can see. Main pros for me:

    • numbered pages,
    • c.250pp
    • dots (a middle grown between lines and plain),
    • cost (c.£8 - not cheap but cheaper than MS's),
    • attractive.

The hard cover is fairly thin. Just enough to give shape without being bulky. We'll see what it's like to write with. There is also a contents page which could be useful for some. The brown is nice in the flesh. The teal isn't IMO.

  • Paper/Pad/Papyrus thread >>>>>>>>>>>

  • I jest. Sort of.

Does anyone have any recommendations for yellow legal pads? Both brands and places to buy (ideally online).

I'm basically trying to emulate George Lucas in every way imaginable at the moment and he wrote Star Wars on yellow legal pads. Once I've got a supply sorted, I'll greenlight a terrible sequel to an iconic film trilogy and make sure the plot revolves around a skull made of glass and magic and aliens or sutin.
