Well I thoroughly enjoyed that, felt like TNRC ought to be. Nice tight bunch, riding well in some fairly tricky conditions, no showboating off the front and no straggling off the back. I'll even forgive the couple of riders who turned up with gears (who I will not name and shame, even if KT Bee and Howard have pretty much outed themselves). Pace was not blistering but we didn't hang about either. I didn't have a speedo or any navigational device so was just trying to judge what felt like a reasonable rolling speed and it seemed to flow quite well I thought.
As I said the conditions were a bit tricky, seemed to be particularly dark and the persistent drizzle didn't help. It can be hard to spot the difference between the dry patches under the trees and gravel beds. If you do hit unexpected gravel the best thing to do is as little as possible, focus on the bit of clear road beyond the gravel, no braking or steering until you are through it. Perhaps I was over timid on the descents but better that than losing people on those dark slippery corners.
Even if were weren't honking along we were done by quarter to ten which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the delights of a wet Tuesday evening in Potters Bar, nice couple of pints outside the 'Spoons.
