  • It's a bit of a tank compared to my bmc but it's rolls really nicely and handles beautifully.

Perfect winter bike then. Getting back on the 'nice' bike will feel great.

  • dan's Rourke, keeping it classy.

  • Will it fit 25s under those 'guards? Might be worth a try.

  • It's 100mm stem - the frame is probably 1-1.5cm too big for me. It's a long 56 with plenty of headtube. I normally ride a 54.5 with more drop to the bars, but it's a winter / commuting bike which I will ride with a bag fairly often, so happy for it to be a bit bigger.

It's got 25c rubinos on now - with ample room for 28's. If I got some better or more generous guards I might be able to go bigger.

  • I was joking about the trex thing. I, like you know it is a myth.

for me anything under 120mm on a road bike is not euro

  • As others have said, looking mighty fine, Dan. Very envious.

This build is more UK audax themed than my BMC, which has a 130mm stem / gold KMC chain etc for full Euro disco points. I just wanted to build a sensible bicycle for once :)

    Ta :)

  • Progress. Nearly complete, just need to borrow a mates chain tool and then set about tuning the derailleurs. Need to level the saddle (should be at correct height though) and the pedals are to be replaces with Shimano jobbies that have been lent to a friend.

  • ^ awesome! better pics pls!

Will do once it's finished, these were just some quick ones off my phone.

  • Dura Ace brakes, Campy Chorus group 10v, chinees rear rims, fir front rims, pmp hubs, FSA omega bars,
handmade custom frame Dura Cycles St Étienne FR, to recall the scandium is aluminum Easton ; )

  • Dibs cowpat, and maybe an udder - depends on condition.

  • Got the Guerciotti ride-able today, actually feels pretty solid, best its felt since i owned it actually, not much to look at but it's not meant to be, I'm tempted to get these bars for it with a black stem.

just need some straps, mudguards and a few small changes, beater/commuter sorted.

You can go for it it's organic...
    Cheers

  • been putting this one together.

just waiting for the stem, chain and some pedals.. anyone got any campagnolo record pista pedals lying around?

  • I must be a pedophile as a kiddo just gave me a boner.

  • Inline seatpost and short stem screams frame too big.

  • You're just jealous of the blue skies!

  • 110mm stem is short?

  • I have collected most parts (except frameset and wheels) for the next build. Its a road bike. I dont want to give it to a bike shop this time to get it built mainly because I want to learn how to build from ground up. The headset is going to be fitted by the frame seller. How should I go about it and not fuck up? Is there any shop/person on here who could teach and help (if needed) at the same time, possibly would need to borrow some tools. Of course I will pay.

  • It's not that hard to build a bike - just give yourself loads of time and make sure you have all the right tools. Measure everything twice and if in doubt cut things like cables a little long, you can always trim them a little.

What group are you putting on it?

Also - if the frame has internal cabling without sleeves or guides, I wouldn't bother doing that part yourself- such a PITA to do at first (once the cables are in you can replace / use the old ones as a guide, but the initial install can be literally hours of fucking about).

  • What about those open workshops? I think there was one in Hackney - and there might have been another in South London. Best option might be to find a mate who has all the stuff you need and willing to talk you through it for beers and company.

  • BikeWorks on Cambridge Heath Road (just past Bethnal Green Station, under the railway bridge) has a fix-it-yourself session every Thursday evening and Saturday morning (from 10 am IIRC). You rent the tools and the bikestand at 5 quid an hour and the mechanics there will help you out if you need it.

I think London Bike Kitchen on Whitmore Road does something similar too.
