Rapidly becoming the answer to all the questions on this thread.

the 'have you considered a bike fit' of apple thread ;)

I really want to do that for mine. I also need to actually put the ram in it that I bought about a year ago.
-
• #4659
Bit apprehensive about doing it all though. Not great with fiddly things. Anyone want to do it for me? I will pay monies! :)

• #4660
What have you got? Mini or iMac? I have done it on an iMac ..
-
• #4661
It's a piece of cake on the old macbooks. Not so sure on the new ones.

I've changed HDDs on both Mac Minis and iMacs and they're both easy as long as you take your time. I found the best thing to do was to selotape all the screws to a piece of paper and write which step they're from on it....

MBP 13" - can't remember which model (it's my home computer) probably bought in 2009.
I once replaced the ram and HD in a 12" Powerbook, took ages and was pretty stressful. The sellotape thing does work though.

If its unibody its piece of piss

It is.. Only problem is that there is a bulge in the casing from where I fell over on a train platform with it in my bag, bit worried that if I take the casing off, it won't go back on again!

After the release of 5S and 5C I say goodbye to apple.
£469 for a 'cheap' phone? Is Apple the new Foffa? -
• #4667
umm the 5S is a bit of a joke. 64 bit cpu ... ok well that's not twice as fast, and I'm assuming 32bit OS still (otherwise where's the apps?). Camera ? So what ? HTC One has a better camera. There's nothing interesting at all.
Apple have really lost innovation

64 bit is significant though, first publicly available 64bit ARM cpu
it means its possible that the ARM cpus will be heading to laptops/desktop which is certainly a good thing.

Also, adding RAM to slow two-three years old Macs... Most of the time they are slow because the HDD is failing due to the overheating.
My HDD appears OK when I run the Disk Utility. Running S.M.A.R.T client of some sort tells a different story. Something about an imminent threat. -
• #4670
oh sure, for techy, yay! but realistically in the modern world most people couldn't give two shits if it's 64bit or not

Don't worry. Koreans and Chinese will copy everything and chuck into the next Android device.

ftfy and yes I'd buy the next nexus and go on sim only contract, the only reason I went with Apple in first place was the ecosystem, now that isnt as unique in fact quite the opposite if you look at Android.

I am stuck with an iPhone (thanks work) however at least I can keep using the google eco system with it.

Apple have lost it. How is the c a mid range smart phone?

Google, Apple... Same ting
To be honest, I've got no patience. I messed up a phone once and a Macbook as well - the blody keyboard didn't want to sit in place. I'm bit worried about all those plastic bits and linings.
