Stolen bikes

  • My new aussie neighbours have had a great introduction to east london - In one week they've had their bins thrown around, house egged, and now a bike nicked.

Unfortunately all I can get is "cruiser" style, blue, with a rear rack and a leather saddle. Will try to get a photo but if anyone sees something matching offered at brick lane, gumtree etc I'm sure they'd appreciate a look at it..

  • Anyone called Oliver lost a brooks saddle?

  • Thanks, Chris. It could be a Skully-chopped saddle:

It's not mine, by the way.

  • £500 reward for Cannondale SuperSix stolen from under my nose while i slept, 4/9/13 Loughborough Junction

not sure if Brick Lane is still the place to find it so any tips for recovery greatly appreciated

as it says in the link, i doubt the serial number is still on there but the amateurishly-applied protective plastic film on the frame is pretty distinctive if you look closely enough

if you see some punk selling it then, rather than risk getting stabbed, maybe just buy it and call me on 07947 674456

  • Without wanting to derail a worthwhile thread, there's a petition doing the rounds to request the police release the API of their software to allow 3rd party developers to create apps that let you cross-reference frame numbers.

    https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/uk-police-chief-constables-make-frame-numbers-of-stolen-bikes-searchable-via-the-police-api/sponsors/new#

  • That will teach him, hope he learned his lesson.

  • ...actually I'm not a great fan of prison as a correctional institution, but this is just ridicules.

  • Wife's 2005 Scott Speedster S4 27 speed stolen from outside Kings Cross Station at their Pancras Rd bike racks in front of CCTV on Thurs between 730am and 530pm. CCTV was pointing in other direction during the day!

Locked frame and wheels with Kryptonite Fagheddaboutit and Kryptonite cable. Apparently Kings Cross Estate have their own security service during the day so really not sure how it was stolen!

As stock image and in excellent condition despite being 2006 model. Only distinguishing feature are Wellgo standard plastic pedals.

  • Sorry to hear, will try to keep an eye out.

But would this be the first documented failing of a Fagh in "normal" use i.e. when the thieves can't take the bike away/use power tools?

Any chance that what it was locked to was interfered with/faulty?

It's a cheap Raleigh but does sound right. Selling his bike because he didn't like the tri bars he bought for it? Hmmm...

  • Hiya there LFGSSrs,

Got a 6 years-old grey gents Dawes Discovery 201 pinched via opportunistic theft -- turned my back 2min from it after carelessly unlocking it to help a friend carrying stuff to her car some 40yrd away -- in Cedar Tree Grove, a cul-de-sac off Lakeview Road near Crown Point (Norwood area, SE27 0QD).

Having happened in a council estate I believe who did it to be based there; anybody from around there happening to have spotted my bike?

With sincerest thanks (and more than a pint) in advance!

  • Last night the bars, planet X stem and versa 8 sti shifters were nicked off my cross check in dalston last night. Very upset. Too broke to replace everything and was supposed to be riding to the Isle of wight on it tomorrow. Balls.

  • Aww This thread makes me want to cry a river of tears! So many sad stories. Hope you're in the mood for another one?

My late 80's T.J.Quick, of Forest hill, racer in red was stollen last tuesday (3/9/13) at 21:00-23:00 on Calvert ave in shoreditch. Although the bike was double locked with cable and D-lock the scumbags took the frame leaving me some wheels to take home on the bus.

The bike is the red one pictured (although rather depressingly the Peugeot was also stollen last year!). Distinguishing features include a dodgy respray around the BB with the wrong shade of red, bar tape pealing off on the right drop, a honky horn.

Please look out for it as it was a lovely machine to ride and I'm going mental looking through bike markets and thinking I see it everywhere. Please avoid Calvert Ave as its perfect for thieves being dark and Lacking in CCTV.

  • Possible Stolen Verenti* with twin Zipp 808 on Holloway road, Archway.

At about 4pm today a slightly tubby man in trainers and tracksuit rode past (opposite direction heading north) on what looked to be a carbon Verenti with twin Zipps. I found a gap in traffic and turned around but he had disappeared, possibly into Junction Road by the time I could get there. Looked pretty dodgy. If anyones looking for it it may be worth hanging around there one afternoon?
*I say verenti because I think it the logo was a V at the start and and I at the end.

  • Hello everyone,

My Pompino was stolen this evening from the bike locking area outside Whitechapel Sainsburys at around 18.10 PM.

I would be very grateful if you kind souls could keep your eyes open if one matching the description comes up for sale any time soon.

    The spec:

Electric Blue One One Pompino Frame and Forks
    Black Halo Aerotrack Rear wheel
Black Alex rim on Shimano hub front wheel. (at least the fuckers didn't get my front Aerotrack!)
Black On One risers with lock on grips.
    Black stem
    Black Specialized saddle

Distinguishing features are a bit scarce but if they are stupid they might leave the white writing on a red background stickers on both fork legs (front of them, so as you look at it) facing forwards, one with the letters CU and the other with the letters NT.

I am a very poor man but any info leading to the safe return of my bike will be rewarded somehow, either financially or beerly.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, my cursory look was overtaken by my desire to get this posted.

    Thank you all.

    Robbie

  • That sucks, Robbie.

It's usually quite busy there with a few minicab drivers hanging about so I'm a bit surprised the thieves targeted that spot.

Still, you never know with these things.

    Good luck

  • Thanks mate,

I've done all I can at the moment I think so it is now just a case of wait and see!

The police put me onto a good thing with www.bikeshd.co.uk which I had not heard of before.

    Robbie

  • Bad luck Robbie2, hope you get it back.

  • Sorry to hear, will try to keep an eye out.

But would this be the first documented failing of a Fagh in "normal" use i.e. when the thieves can't take the bike away/use power tools?

Any chance that what it was locked to was interfered with/faulty?

In hindsight, leaving a £800 bike for 10 hrs was probably a big mistake. If they had a cordless angle grinder doing 30s every 45minutes, it would be fairly discreet and all add up enough to break the Fagh. The armoured cable they could come back for with bolt cutters.

It sounds unrealistic for broad daylight but Kings Cross security admittedly said that they didn't have anyone patrolling that area at the time because they mainly hang around the car park in the daytime. I guess they're more bothered about earning cash from ticketing cars than they are concerned about actual security of locked bikes.

  • That sucks.

    Got any photographs of it?

I had my Cannondale stolen in Bristol a few years back. It took 6 months of looking but I found some twat riding it, so I pushed him off and stole it back, so there's hope.

Hope you have good luck finding it.

  • :(:(:(

Stolen bike story of my own now. Would really appreciate it if you could look out for:

**B'twin sport 3 **as per stock/below photo except with a few distinguishing features:

    • Campag xenon 10sp / triple
    • White SDG i-beam saddle
    • Silver mavic aksium wheelset
    • Insanely short (40mm) bright orange planet x stem

    **Bianchi via nirone 7 c2c
**As stock except with black aksiums

Silver carlton FG/SS Red rear tyre, otherwise uninteresting

  • The two that aren't the btwin are my housemates, I'll try to put up photos and better information when he gets home.

I'm sure we'd both be happy to offer a reward no questions asked for info leading to safe return.

These were nicked in E1 area by being carried over at least one 8' wall. If anyone sees any one of the 3 offered at Brick Lane, broadway, gumtree, ebay etc please do drop me a line

    Many thanks
