....
Front wheel with QR is safe... Not the rest of the bike...
My sister did this some years ago with a Mongoose mountain bike i'd lent to her, stolen on the Lillie Road, outside the Lillie Rec, she came home with a lock and a front wheel with an apology! This was the second time she had not locked one of my bikes correctly and had it stolen, it was also the last time as I realised that I could not keep buying news bikes every few months.

Nobody in Croatia seemed to lock their bikes. We went on many fun late night bike rides whilst at Garden festival, and always returned the bikes to where we found them.

That photo is amazing if you scroll down to crop it at his shoulders.
What's wrong with my face?!
Probably the worst locking structures I've seen. But Kompute's right. People seemed quite happy to leave bikes anywhere with zero/little locking. People we asked also confirmed that bike crime was not really a conspicuous problem.

I grew up in a fairly middle class bit of North London, and for a few years there was a kid who'd just demand stuff off smaller kids, including my skateboard. His parents would just deny he did it, and that he bought it himself, or that it was his older (adopted) brother who took it oh but its gone now.
They moved away before we hit our teens. Can't imagine what that kid has grown up to be like.
I have a similar story except in Wimbledon and it ends with the bully being beaten up by an overweight kid with anger management issues. Apparently he spent over two months in hospital and changed schools when he recovered.
From what I hear he's now a lawyer, so still taking people's possessions!

It's an Apollo.
Consider it a mercy killing.

I know. But still...
Still really shit that people would steal bits off a wounded bike, especially:
- 1 pedal
- 1 brake lever
- V-brakes calipers
- 1 pedal

My neighbour had his rear wheel stolen about 2 months ago.
Then people starting picking bits off it.
He 'freed' his bike around 5pm last night. A couple of hours later, it was gone...
So it spent 2 months locked in public with no back wheel?

I presume it's to lock your helmet to the bike, rather than to lock the bike itself.
Still if you think cyclings so dangerous you have to wear a helmet why are you even thinking of taking it off while you get a coffee? Lethal. -

Guy at shop recommended two big D Locks.
Guy with brand new bike decides to lock rear spokes just to the frame (and saddle) with one, and front qr wheel to rail with the other. So nearly a textbook safe lock. But somehow miles away.
Darwin's law applies to theft too.

Don't forget the cheesestring holding the saddle to the rear D-lock! That makes all the difference..

For when you're at the cafe.
Just build up a decent repelent smell in it. Mine protects my bike like a nasel abusing forcefield.

Front wheels safe though.
Removing a lefty wheel requires time, and a complex ritual. Which can only be carried out during a full moon.

Well it requires an allen key, and remembering which of the two bolts turns the wrong way. Which is enough to stump me.
