I have a singlespeed - I bought it for rehab purposes, actually. I couldn't bend my knee very well after the first of the two ops, so the fact it was so very low meant that it was much easier to start with, and the cycling did wonders for regaining mobility.
Now I generally use it for short hops where I don't want to faff around with a full bike, especially if I'm just meeting someone locally. Sometimes I commute on it, but I have secure storage at work so I often use a full bike.
