I guess the main advantage relating to a phone is battery life - you have two separate devices rather than relying on the fairly stingy battery capacity in modern mobile phones (if you look at battery usage on most Android phones, usually 50+% will be screen), and ruggedness - not many phones are really water-resistant, and is that a risk you want to take

Its not a massive problem, but I'd like to feel as though I could eat a pretty decent amount between arriving at work and having to cycle the same distance home!
Might it be reporting expended calories (i.e. minus your basic maintenance rate)?
