This raises a good question, is there any more effective warm up than just cycling? Or perhaps y'all were referring to feeling warm...
For my practice race yesterday I needed 20 minutes brisk cycling and a good glute stretch before I was of any use. I was quite slow indeed before this, but then found some legs and put out three hours of decent power. My body was telling me "fail to warm up on Sunday and you'll be dropped like a stone in the first 10km".
