• Shorter wheelbase for track racing IIRC - so no hills to climb

    Big outdoor tracks only, presumably. If you rode that round Calshot, the seatpost would snap the first time you hit the banking at 30mph.

    On banked tracks, there is an argument to be made that a longer wheelbase is beneficial, because the longer chord lifts the bike further from the track mid-corner, reducing the distance travelled by both the centre of gravity and the centre of pressure.
