New to lfgss, but been flicking through the forum for a few weeks, My current project was restoring a gifted Chessington Cycles racer, back to life, Im a Product design student, so took the opportunity to sandblast and paint the frame myself. Id been sourcing parts all year, i had help from a mate who worked at Halfords with the retreading of the frame so a new caged bottom bracket could be fitted. I then sourced a mountain bike crank set and removed the smaller and larger tooth to retain the 38tooth. Im still working on uploading photos, but will upload some soon.
I also flipped the bars and cut them to make bull bars. The real bargain was in the wheels, i managed to source a bucked mavic open pro rim with a shimano hub. I was badly bucked and missing a cassette so i got a single speed kit with an 16 tooth. Used the spacers to get the chain line spot on. Finally got a seat and some mountain bike pedals. Upgraded the brake pads for better stopping power. Managed to complete the project for under £80. But hopefully the first of many. Does anyone have any info on Chessington cycles, I was told its an European bike, from late 1970s. Any info or questions on the build let me know.
