• Manhood vs stem

didn't someone pee blood at mitch once because of a stem? maybe we should play on unicycles? no stem!

• that was me!

<3 Mitch

• Sharp Stems are nasty, stem knee is possibly the worst thing about bmxing. Makes me cringe thinking about it.

• So is the circumstance of the NAHBPC incident rare enough that we apply a guideline rather than a rule, given that no rule can make our bikes truly save without making them very difficult and expensive to design and assemble to comply with said rule?

• I appreciate that the association is putting a large emphasis on safety, only right, just think this decision is coming in very quickly.

Can whoever has the mailing list make sure that every team is made aware assp so they least stand a fighting chance of having a legal bike?

• Games of polo played to horrid flip/flop injury = bazzilion/1, likeliness of it happening this weekend = 50bazzilion/1. Should flops on a flip hub be removed = yup. Cassettes and other vaguely similar but different set ups being banned at short notice, nah blud.

• ^ seems fair.

• A suggestion: wrap spare links of chain round enough sprockets to block out the majority of a cassette, hold it on with hockey tape. The chain should cover the teeth to a suitable degree, and the tape hold it on.
Would this be acceptable?

I'd say that would likely to be a suitable solution, yes. Depends on how it's done though. And note I'm not the person deciding on this, it's just my opinion.

But it's also a feature of bikes which is not needed for polo itself. You can remove spare freewheels without affecting the sport in any way. And that should be the focus of rulemakers. How people get to polo is up to them.

Other elements of bikes which are unsafe, remain, but are required for the sport. Not being able to ban some things isn't a logical argument to not ban others.

• Removing any of the cheap Dicta freewheels will be a pain.

• Bench vice is a last resort as it crushes the bearings but The Red Bike Shop is the closest LBS and have one if needed, but I'd suggest not leaving it to last minute.

• Smashy smashy.

• Removing all Dicta freewheels will be an improvement.

Ftfy, cheap for a reason

• is there a link to the actual ruleset which will be used for the open? all this talk of amendments has become extremely confusing so looking for some definitive answers.. especially concerning bottle cages.

• No additions to the frame, so no bottle cages.

• Unless beer?

• ok, thanks.
but srsly, where are the rules?

• As far as I'm aware it's 3.3.

• Yeah, I think you are looking at the wrong ones Bill.

I also wouldn't upload it on the London site, just link to that (so any changes get picked up automatically)

This^

• great, thanks

• §2.3.1 – The bicycle has at least one braking mechanism.

§2.3.1.1 – A fixed gear drive trainwith footretention on both pedals qualifies as a braking mechanism.

Are any people gonna be playing fixed without manually operated brakes then?

• Brksrdth.

• I can picture scoble saying "fixed wheel bicycle-polo bicycle"

• Just seen the rule change for LO. While I agree that flip-flop freewheels are a bit dangerous (long teeth), I don't see how a cassette can be in the same league (shallow rounded teeth). Also, I will change gear (or an opponent will if they're feeling frisky) while playing a game to suit a court, or the team I'm playing against, or the type of play I want to achieve, therefore changing gears is actually something I would do to benefit my game and it's become part of the way I play. Just my two pence as a 9 speed fan. I'm not playing this weekend but will be there on Sunday with my illegal bike :)
