  • We definitely shall.

Any predictions from you on the sales figure that quantifies "smashed it"?.

Do you think it will sell as many as the pebble?
Or that it if it's first to market, history will show it outpaced a later Apple smartwatch?

  • With Velocio on this, also:

However, there is no official confirmation about these alleged specifications, so take it all with a pinch of salt and don’t keep your expectations too high.

Makes me think that with pebble coming soon, and everyone talking about the apple i watch that Samsung don't want to be left behind so are putting out some pie in the sky stuff - even if its to get people talking about them in relation to a smart watch.

Personally I think the whole wearable tech thing is a waste of time. I NEVER take my watch off, this means I never forget it I never have to change the battery in my watch as it is charged when I wank move my wrist but other watches are so efficient when it comes to battery life that they can go for years without having the battery changed. Smart watches will not and cannot be able to do this, you will have to take them off all the time to charge them. Not to mention the fact that if you start yelling voice commands to Siri / google voice into your wrist watch in public you are likely to be hauled off by the men in white coats. Having a little display on your wrist that is not fit for purpose for half the things it is suggested people use them for is NOT more convenient than putting your hand in your pocket and pulling out your phone.

Don't get me started on the muggers beacon that is Google Glass.

Wearable tech is being hyped to death by marketing idiots and will only be used briefly by idiots who care less about the functionality of the mobile computing tools they spend their money on than they do about engaging in the ongoing "my cock is bigger than yours" competition that currently revolves around gadgets.

  • Bit harsh...

I wanna feel like I'm living in the SuperFuture, a smart watch that worked would be awesome and I would wholeheartedly buy into it... I don't care about the other stuff, charging etc...

  • I have a black pebble, thinking of selling it, anyone interested? Got a slight scratch down front but can't see it under the protector on it...

  • PIcs?

  • Away this weekend, so will put one up on Monday. Selling as I don't have a android phone and it is rubbish at connecting to a iPhone apart from that its really impressive, there are third party apps which help push notifications so I had sports scores flashing up, very helpful in boring meetings!

It's a black kick starter edition with a couple of screen protectors, annoyingly I didn't keep the packaging though.

    Tldr, pics on Monday

  • How much do you want for it? It might be fun to play with for a bit.

  • Here first. TS ebay's over there >>>

  • No idea, they sell for £130 ish on eBay but wouldn't be that much, think I paid $130 for it, and I have some full body protectors for it too, so probably around £100? Dunno if that is too rich?

I seriously doubt this. Whilst the first wave of things like google glass and the first generation of smartwatches are starting to appear now, they're nowhere near the definitive iteration of what wearable tech will be, more a toe in the the water test phase where people are playing around with ideas, and I doubt any of these will see major commercial success (unless apple do manage to release a smart watch in the same manner they did with the iPhone, majorly changing consumer perceptions). Over the next 5 - 10 years we'll see more of this tech pop up, but experimenting with different directions and form factors, for instance adding more sensors that interact with your phone, and with time it will become a mainstream part of the market. After all, at some point the current smart phone model of big touch screens and faster processors is going to become obsolete.

  • Deep down I wanna wait for the holographic gesture controlled wrist mounted communications centre...

But I know I'll be buying one of these things first... When they get good...

  • Android people:

Is there a way I can be in the office and access my phone apps like browser/messaging when my phone is plugged in? I think airplay allows this over wifi but im not using that at work.

  • hurrumph just ran into first major hiccup with using a rooted device. barclays mobile banking app won't run if it can tell the device is rooted.

appears there's workarounds but the app keeps changing to stop them working and it's a major hassle to keep it running.

am annoyed as I now use it for both pinsentry when i use the online banking, checking my balance pretty much all the time and for quickly moving money around without having to log on to a computer. now at minimum i'll have to carry my card reader everywhere and use a mobile browser to try and log on.

    balls.

  • Just do what I do and take out £10k in fresh notes at the start of the week and leave the accountants to check the balances and shit. Word.

    ?

Thanks, do they have to be on the same network though?

  • just installed and seems like same network only.

airdroid has a remote network functionality but requires $20 a year premium membership. it's limited in what you can do over the connection too

  • Hmmm apparently air droid may allow you to access the phone functionality via USB soon. That would be good.

  • Just been speaking to Stephen Rapoport from PACT Coffee about the possibility of delivering coffee by bike courier. He asked if there is an app or bit of software that plots/maps the most efficient route for deliveries. Preferably something open source.

    Any ideas?

  • We need to get http://postmates.com/ to come to London.

I've been on a one-man crusade for this for almost a year now.

    That will sort it.

  • I've seen OpenVRP being used with some success before.

  • They should speak to Control Couriers...

What would it take to adapt this for London?
